re: Resentment of first-class passengers can be a cause of air rage

I have told myself that if my net worth reaches 10m I would start flying first class. Since that's not remotely likely to happen, I'll continue to nod politely to the First class ballers as I pass by on my way to 37D. I've never resented wealth or status or anything somebody else has a single day in my life and I never will. That's what we have "progressives" for.

First class is a ridiculous waste of money especially on domestic flights
However, if an upgrade is available for ~75 I'll always do it because I can check my bags for free (50) and get free drinks (easily 20-30)
It pays for itself

Didn't God tell Moses to not covent his neighbors stuff?
America needs to practice some of those old commandments.

I guess I should have made a distinction between business "first class" on domestic flights and the first class available on many international flights.
ETA: Like the first class cabins pictured on the first page.

still more economic that owning a private jet, that's why you'll see a lot of truly wealthy people that go first class on the airlines as opposed to private jet, they know how to make money and they know how to keep it
I know quite a few of truly wealthy businessmen that own private jets they put into a separate corporation...for example XYZ Air LLC..lease it to Acadian Ambulance and let them charter it out while the head honcho isnt using it for his business and leisure travels.

Occasionally, I would treat myself to 1st Class...until I realized that it was filled with some of the most boorish people in society.
I'll take boorish people over some fat hog slopping up her left over Burger King during the flight.

that's just trying to subsidize the cost of ownership, and is still usually a money loser, even with the corporate jets just about the only justification for ownership is for less wear and tear on the CEO, and that the CEO can conduct business while airborne, be rested up to be ready to conduct business when they arrive

Exactly. As soon as I board, the first thing I do is pull out a copy of FT and start reading so I don't have to look at the "general boarders".

Oh I dont think they are doing it to make money, but its a way to keep the bird in the air and supplement the expenses like you said.

these type of people fly a lot. There is a lot of justification when you can fly clients to and from golf courses around the US, fly your upper level management to and from corporate meeting and conventions, fly your family to and from vacation destinations, etc...
These type of people use AMEX BLACK for everything fricking thing they purchase

I've got a friend who is on the board of AMEX and a former chairman of that board, he carries a black AMEX card of course, and he says there's not a whole lot of justification for that, maybe if you are fleeing something or someone in the middle of the night and need to charter a jet

This is why I try and fly southwest everywhere, free checked bags, free non alcoholic drinks, and all one class.
(though I do prefer assigned seats)

I make 4 trips to London a year for work, once a quarter. If I am on American, I will basically automatically go to business (they only allow an upgrade of one cabin so coach-business business-first). On BA, its 50/50 first or not.

I always fly first class for international travel. Gets you to the front of the customs line.
For domestic flights, only time I travel 1st class is if the cost is marginal, or someone else is paying. I have never paid more than $200 to upgrade to 1st class and found you typically get better deals when you book coach/economy then upgrade to 1st/business.

Now, a jet that can seat a minimum of 8 passengers plus the crew....thats where the wealthy line is drawn
That's what I meant. Not the 4 seater Cessna that every GP and ambulance chaser has

Published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences the study finds that passengers in economy class are 3.8 times more likely to become unruly if the plane also contains a first-class section.
Any of that have to do with first class sections being on larger planes more that are prone to longer flights, which means more time to consume alcohol are just get hacked off about something in general?

I don't fly often. Recently I have was put next to s hefty guy. Never again I hope. Most uncomfortable 4 hours of my life. Fat people should buy 3 seats. Also frick people who have three carry ons

I always wondered...in those little first class pods, can you share one with your boo? What if me and bae wanted to watch a movie snuggled up in that little pod thingy?
