The amount of money i would have to have to be able to justify this to myself would be ridiculous. We are talking billions.

That's normal. And why would anyone get upset about that?
People being people who want to complain. People standing in line the whole day and almost about to step foot on the plane when they asked to step aside to allow wine to be brought on.

Yeah, the PC-12 is pretty comfy.

Have a relative who works/used to work for Delta. They do the whole free/cheap standby ticket thing. Parents go with them on buddy passes every once in a while. Pretty common for them to get business or first class tickets on these out of country tickets since they are so expensive those are usually the ones available

In many cases, sure, but the point is that to the person who is susceptible to an "air rage", those in first class are perceived to be the aristocrats.

Not a lot of people paying that premium when the riches can just charter.
You obviously have no idea what it cost to charter vs flying first class

FWIW, it is a 15 hour non-stop flight, so business class becomes much more attractive.

At least half of first class is usually there because of upgrades due to status. Not a lot of people paying that premium when the riches can just charter.
This is changing. Airlines are starting to monetize those seats. What this means is less upgrades available, but the price is also coming down somewhat.

I flew my wife and I business class to Thailand and back earlier this year on points. When you experience it once your number for justification starts to come down a bit

nah not really, I know plenty guys that have planes that I wouldn't consider super wealthy or anything like that...
Now, a jet that can seat a minimum of 8 passengers plus the crew....thats where the wealthy line is drawn

was a study really necessary?
According to a recent Gallup poll, 4 out of 5 respondents "hate us cause they ain't us."

Correct. They figured out its easier to sell a coach ticket for $550 with an instant upgrade to first for another $175 vs. charging $975 for a FC seat.

Instead of getting inspired to be in first class, they want everyone to be brought down to their level.
Sounds like most of America.

Hmm. That's a misconception. Most of the people flying private planes are using corporate jets. Everyone knows that the rich fly first class on these airlines:
BA: London to America
Emirates: Everywhere else in Europe to America
Singapore Airlines: Asia to America

Cramming people like sardines into a metal tube for hours, I'm surprised there aren't more air rage incidents.

Same here.
As someone said above, I get upgraded because I fly. A lot.
Is first class better than coach? Of course. But, like anything else--it gets old and routine. First class doesn't move the needle anymore.
Which reminds me that I hate flying/airports/airport people. All of it.

still more economic that owning a private jet, that's why you'll see a lot of truly wealthy people that go first class on the airlines as opposed to private jet, they know how to make money and they know how to keep it

Not really. I've upgraded multiple times, on a whim, while checking my bags. I believe the first time it was a short 2 hour flight and cost my $49 extra. I've never paid more than $200 extra to upgrade, one was actually an 8 hr+ flight. Lucky, I guess.
