That's so soft.
Some of us had to walk. Uphill both ways. In the heat in summer and snow in winter.

mean of all things to nitpick with teachers. What about that statement is unreasonable? Parents are responsible for teaching their kids.

anybody that takes the time to "practice lunch" is almost assuredly doing all of those things as well
One would hope so, but I take nothing for granted, especially for children from low income homes.

frick practicing lunch. Work with them to learn letters, numbers, counting, and at least attempting to write. They will figure lunch out. Lack of school readiness in those other things will only increase the chances of your “kiddo” becoming another negative statistic in Louisiana schools.
You can do both, it’s not mutually exclusive.
And it’s good advice they should be exercising at home anyway.

There's nothing at all wrong with this request.

In China the kids are already working at that age. Our kids are eating crayons. Sad how far we've fallen.

There’s nothing wrong with it.
I would absolutely love to see how long the OP would last teaching Kindergartners or 1st graders.

He would quit before lunch time the first day!

Not an unreasonable request at all.

Another one my Mom (worked in elementary) used to complain about was teaching kids to dress themselves. Especially at that K-1st grade where they may still be having occasional bathroom accidents. They’re told they can’t go in the bathroom to help them because of district fear of child abuse accusations but then the kids can’t dress themselves either.

I'm no fan of the education establishment, but this actually seems like something reasonable and thought out.

That's so stupid. Some of us had enough sense to hitchhike.

My wife teaches kindergarten. The shite these kids aren’t capable of doing at 4 is incredible
Posted on 7/24/22 at 3:20 pm to Gee Grenouille
Most kindergartners I have taught were eating the school lunch so this was not an issue.

I mean it’s a different post for sure but (coming from a teacher) of all the dumb bullshite I’ve seen colleagues of mine post this is low on the list. It seems to be good advice for the most part
