This is about on par with another country assassinating a US cabinet member on foreign soil. Secretary Of State, Vice President, Secretary of Defense, etc.

Only this guy was apparently personally overseeing state backed terrorism in another country. I guarantee that if the head of the NSA was doing the same thing, we would be embarrassed for being caught with our pants down and wouldn't escalate.

So the bombing at the Baghdad airport where he was located, wouldn’t that be considered active combat?

Sounds like it was 3 rockets pissibly from a helicopter and all 3 hit their intended target with almost no civilian effect.

The way you're trying to stretch here discredits your other posts (as if Russia and China would hold a proxy war against the US)

Jesus dude, we've been in multiple proxy wars with Russia. How can you tell me I'm stretching things? Maybe architect isnt the right word but he certainly laid the foundation.
Look I have no doubt the US would whip arse all I'm saying that this could be bad, what is there to disagree about?

Well, they’re more trustworthy and reliable than cnn but that’s a low bar.

I mean I get why people are saying this, but in this scenario it only makes sense if the US SECSTATE personally liaisons with dictators and terrorist leaders to run proxy wars.

Exactly. We generally give our guys plausible deniability or put plenty of layers between our top guys and field commanders. This was some bold shite they thought no one would ever challenge.

Yep. Killing a military leader of another country without a Congressional war approval is bad, bad, bad, regardless of that leader’s past actions. The blowback is going to be ugly.

I don't agree with this.

Any military leader actively engaged in terrorism would be considered fair game today. We do not need Congressional war approval to take an opportune shot at a terrorist leader.

Damn! Iranian-backed terrorist just tried to burn our embassy to the ground, killed an American a few days before, and you are worried about us RETALIATING against the very people responsible? Blowback? The Iranians just learned the definition of that word!

Don't try to have a logical argument with that dude. He's got a pretty bad case of TDS.

Our anti-American liberal media is a fricking disgrace. Even well know Iranian journalist, Masih Alinejad, is calling them out with the below tweets for defending this scum.

IMPORTANT: For many Iranians Qassem Soleimani was a warmonger who caused massive casualties in Syria. He was no hero to average Iranians who chanted against the country’s support for Hezbollah and Hamas 1/

Unfortunately Western media misses the point by glorifying Soleimani— He was the common enemy for people in Iran, Lebanon, Iraq and Syria. His Involvement in crackdown against university students in late 1990s was another black mark against him. 2/
