can someone tell me why there are so many wrecks around this stretch on I10?
well for one, they don't enforce the lane restrictions imposed on the big trucks. So big trucks are constantly switching lanes which causes smaller vehicles to brake or switch lanes to go around them.
second, assholes get in the left lane and go 60-65 which is about 10 MPH slower than the majority of traffic (in the left lane).
third, LSP sucks balls at running radar in that area to keep all the led foots in check.

I'm with you on this. I'm the one who is pointing out that these people are assholes too.
It’s just soooo simple. Brakes cause yo-yo traffic. If everyone left space for other cars while in traffic like the 18 wheelers do, traffic would flow sooooo much smoother and faster and EVERYONE would get to where they are going faster.
I swear, driving a manual realllllly opened my eyes on how to drive in traffic.

this may or may not be true, but I've seen 18 wheelers looking like centipedes so i'm not buying the space thing in every instance.
and of course, if you leave a decent buffer between the vehicle in front of you, its an open invitation for some asshat to cut in fron of you.

Pulling somebody over on that bridge who is doing 70-75 is probably more dangerous than just letting them drive 70-75. Any time a cop sits on the bridge or pulls somebody over there is a traffic pile up from people trying to get over. traffic is usually pretty tight so you don't see the cop until you're pretty close.

Better the a-hole has room and you don’t hit your breaks, causing a chain reaction of breaking thus slowing down traffic than him have a foot of room and him take the spot anyway.

I’m an owner/operator too, but I’d never work for $1/mile

Diesel can't melt concrete and steel.
Depending on the temp of the fire (based on what chemicals were burning) and how long the fire burned, the concrete can change properties resulting in brittleness. The brittleness affects the compressive strength and also can cause loss in the bonding to the reinforcement. Additionally, even at temperatures lower than needed above, the concrete in un-reinforced sections can spall off resulting in a loss of section.

They don’t realize you can take I-55 to Jackson MS then go west on I-20 to Shreveport then I-49 back to I-10.

Guess they don’t get the same $1 per mile reimbursement I get.

Speed limit is 60... so one is an a-hole for only going 5 MPH over speed limit?

Everyone is driving worse these days - truckers and non-truckers. Distracted and in a hurry.
On that bridge, there are some sections with no shoulders and no room for error. If you hit a wall / another vehicle in those spots, you and everyone around you are screwed.
They probably need to study the 60/55 speed limits there. NO ONE follows them. Raise them to 70/65, and then beef up enforcement on anyone going more than 75/70.
Go after the trucks in the left lane, especially the rolling roadblock ones.
Longer term, that bridge needs crossovers and extended shoulders. If the new shoulders work for the Causeway, perhaps do the same thing to this bridge.

my cruise is set at 78MPH. I don't want them to pull me over. But they could ticket the trucker in the left lane or the guy doing 90+mph. I see both at least once per trip. and I drive it every day.

If you’re in the left lane not passing... yes.

the other issue is the road was designed for 1950s auto and truck traffic....
the bridge was opened in the 70s.
yes but design and planning started in late 50s
quote:so design probably started in 68 or 69. are you going to continue to lie?
The bridge was opened to the public in 1973, construction was said to have begun in 1971.

Fun fact of today for some that maybe didn't know it: Atch. basin bridge concrete sections were built at same Lake Pontchartrain location as the causeway, then barged for assembly on site where they are today.
Can someone chime in on what these new shoulder sections on the causeway stand to achieve and how that would support the basin bridge? Does seem silly that the basin crossovers are blocked off

It already has the crossovers.
Totally agree on the shoulders though.
