Remember the video of the three Humvee's crashing into the ground from the failed parachute drop?
LINK to video
Turns out a soldier caused it by cutting the load straps before the drop.

quote:
A soldier with the U.S. Army was found guilty on Wednesday of deliberately destroying three Army vehicles by cutting the parachute straps on Humvees that were dropped during an airborne exercise in southern Germany.
The incident happened back in April 2016, when Skipper was assigned to the 91st Cavalry Regiment (Airborne) in Grafenwoehr, Germany, part of the Italy-based 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne).
By clipping the straps, the Humvees smashed to the ground after they were dropped from a plane – a moment that was captured in a video posted to YouTube.
"Skipper was sentenced to a reduction in grade to E1 and a Bad Conduct Discharge by a court-martial panel consisting of enlisted soldiers and officers," the Army said.

No jail time whatsoever in a case that was contested and not a guilty plea! Wow! That jury let him off easy.

I would guess it had more to do with this guy being miserable and wanting out of the Army and/or trying to spite his NCO's.
You see a lot of enlisteds do stupid shite to get out of the military.
I once had to escort a guy to the restricted barracks after he was found walking Orange Blossom Trail (Orlando) wearing nothing but a Steak n Shake Apron and a dog collar.
