I'm 49 and grew up in Baton Rouge. School always started the week before Labor Day and we would have a day off on the second week of school. School also ended the week before Memorial Day. In high school, we took finals after Memorial Day.
My birthday is the first week of August and as a kid, it felt like I still had a long time after my birthday before going back to school.

I don't. We always started in August. However, I do remember days when we had to go to school even if the weather was bad.
