I’ve worked in Deer Park/Pasadena nearly all of my 18ish years in the industry…lived in The Montrose, Upper Kirby/River Oaks, and now Rice Military.

Guess it all depends on what you’re willing to part ways with each month on rent or a mortgage…and then what your interests are in your downtime.

The fricking traffic is the worst its ever been…25-30 minutes from where I’m at to work, but going home it’s damn near an hour everyday.

Could live in eado near the ballparks. Decently close to the singles action and not a terrible commute.

Also if you’re willing to deal with the impending traffic clusterfrick that will come with the 45/69 interchange construction

I feel your pain. I live in Kingwood and just took a new job by the Galleria. I just get up at 4 to lift down here before work and then go to a golf simulator place or train jits after work until the traffic dies around 7. I am never at home anymore except on weekends. Probably gonna run into Jodie one day.

Spend some time with the live feed traffic congestion maps on line.
Center on where you will be working.
See where the road are that feed into that area. Avoid them.
See where people who live there are driving to. See if those destinations have any decent areas.

I kept my sanity driving on the west side of Houston by choosing
an apartment and later a home that let me be driving opposite where all the traffic was. (Mornings driving west on I-10 and later across it but never on it.)

Areas I would look at:
Mont Belvieu (commute via 146 or 99 shouldn't be that bad)
League City/Clear Lake/Kemah
Nassau Bay (will have to be cognizant of storm surge since it's basically at sea level) but an almost all-white well run town which isn't part of Houston.

But either way, fret not. There are HEBs all around.

When I lived in Houston, I used to love how many people would claim they lived in River Oaks. I’d be like, “nah buddy, you live off Washington Ave. just like me.”

i have done similiar/identical commutes ending in last year and job before that.

I-10 construction has made it miserable because you used to be able to take 45, 10 or 610. If you main route had a wreck.

Then last year it would regularly have me taking Clinton because the freeways were backed up everywhere.

Like i said earlier, if you live in the loop, it is not bad if you cut out of work before the plants shift change around 4. After 4, it is a shite show. A 30-45 minute commute can quickly go to 1.5 hour

For Deer Park?

Clear Lake is probably your best bet. Location, outdoor attractions, and I don’t think it would be THAT boring.

Otherwise - EADO is good for singles, nightlife, restaurants, and is still easier on the commute. Because you’d be east, but going outbound when everyone else is going inbound, and vice versa.

If you’re single and working in Deer Park, look into Eado Downtown or Midtown. There’s plenty to do in these areas. Don’t move to the Heights or Galleria, the further away West you get from Deer Park the worse the commute.

You can live anywhere around downtown and get to Deer Park pretty easily. If you like sports, I’d check out the EADO area for proximity to Astros, Rockets, and Dynamo.

Ooof deer park is the hood and all decent areas are a pretty far drive

So off base.

Deer Park isn’t nearly as rough as Pasadena. There’s definitely good areas in DP. South Pasadena is decent around Beltway/Fairmont areas. La Porte is decent along 146. Anything along 225 in Pasadena and DP is pretty rough.

DP has a badass Cajun restaurant. Guidry’s. There’s also several other Cajun spots in the area. It’s a real blue collar town with down home working class folks. Doesn’t feel like a Houston generic suburb at all. There’s definitely money running around there but it doesn’t have that pretentious vibe like you get from River oaks.

If you’re willing to branch out some, Friendswood, Clearlake and Webster are good for families. Mont Belvieu is the big booming new spot on the eastern side overall. Depends on how far you’re willing to go.

I don’t hate that area at all. There’s plenty of businesses around there and the economy is always strong.

Why do people live like this? That sounds completely awful.

Maybe it’s just me but I actually like being at my house and I love being with my family. I seek the least amount of time in public as possible.

Dude just move to where your work is. That’s pathetic.
