re: wtf happened to Austin, Texas

Posted by Dan on 1/12/26 at 8:52 pm to
Austin is awesome. Live on the west side of town, near some normal people, enjoy the hills, avoid I-35, go for a run around town lake and jump in Barton Springs pool, eat some brisket, grab a marg on the patio at Matt’s, see a show at ACL live, if you forget to lock your door- who cares, hike the green belt, go to dripping for some wineries. there’s a trade off for any city

You used to be able to reserve parking tickets in that garage. Another option if you have a car is to street park further east near one of the bars like haymaker and hang out there and then Uber to the field
What the hell are you blabbering about? There is no parking in downtown highrises on purpose?

Developers don’t build $200MM buildings without market level parking to push a political view. Good god man

re: Did you know Yeti makes backpacks?

Ironically they have just recalled their cooler backpacks. Offering original value as gift card or an “equal” product.

Apparently the magnets were falling off and being eaten by kids

re: Route to Round Rock, Texas

Posted by Dan on 2/15/23 at 8:23 pm to
Yes they will both be within 10 minutes ETA at any given time. Unless you are arriving in Austin around 4-5 on a weekday. will probably send you up north once you get closer on tollway 130 (85mph speed limit)
Are you in city limits with zoning and/or in an HOA?

No

The Moose was great, it was central and had all the games on.

There is actually a ULL Cajuns flag behind the bar, so random

CBS Looking Very Smart

Nice call grabbing Aggies vs Alabama instead of trying to insert the rape case of LSU Tenn. Those content experts are on point there. Kudos is all I can say to CBS scheduling team!

Georgetown is as liberal as Austin. They claim to have 100% "green electricity" which is bogus. So avoid.

This guy is clearly confused don’t listen to him

Is the property tax rate really 2.1% in Austin? That would probably open up up to 600K for me. Everything in Houston is north of 3%. My current is 3.6%. So I was definitely off in my mortgage estimation there.

It’s not really that different. Austin proper and Houston proper are very similar, around 2.2-2.4. It all depends on specific address. If you are in specific burbs and in a MUD it can get over 3 in both metros.

It would eventually be around The Dominion.

If you are in the Domain then Georgetown out of your 3 options. Dominion sounds badass though they should have called it that
Make sure to look at recent solds vs current active/pending homes, when trying to determine options in your price range.
Where are you working?

Manor kind of sucks but is easiest into downtown Austin if that is a thing for you.
Georgetown is pretty well established and has good schools. Hutto has hippo statues

That is plenty of money earned to afford an expensive house. What exactly is your issue?

Yeah sorry but with 200 combined you are just in your own way if you’re having trouble. Yes I understand there are 20 offers on every decent house.

I'd anticipate the same is happening down in Austin, but at a higher range. Like 350-650 is flying off the market, and you have to get into 650-1M for things to tone down.

It’s 2MM in Austin. 1.3Mm sells for 1.5 etc etc. in somewhat central neighborhoods. Source: wife is realtor here
