72 years old and and thought the time for suits had passed. Now I need a suit for an important occasion. Please provide some guidance. It's gonna need some tailoring (if you were my age you would appreciate that) and I'm hoping to keep under $1k.
References please! Got a two month timeline!

You could probably get a custom one in about a months timeframe for roughly 700.

What's the occasion?

Check out black lapel. You just need to go to a tailor and pay $10 for a detailed sizing. Then throw your numbers in the site and pick your suit and it will be tailored to your specifics. Can get a full deal for $600 or so.

Banks has the gold signature line that is always on sale. Usually round $450. For the price, a great deal.

Dillard’s is having a 65% off sale right now. If available in your size, you can get a very nice $2000 suit for $700.

Men’s Wharehouse in the Mall of Acadiana can fix you up within your price point.

What? You'll be going to a load of funerals in the near future including your own at some point. Seventy-two is a good time to buy a couple new ones.

I bought mine from George Bass back in 2021, and it was a great experience. I think I spent about $1000, but I don't fully recall. They had some very nice suits at different price ranges, but I don't think any were much less than $1K. It's worth calling and inquiring. It's not a full bespoke, but they come measure and get it cut accordingly. The suit is exceptional, and the guy who I worked with was awesome. He came to my house to do everything. I never had to leave once. He even delivered it, and then picked it up when adjustments were required.

I've never spent this much on a suit before, but afterwards I'm glad I did. This will last me a lifetime, and it looks damn good.

Goodwill. Why pay a few hundred for something you'll wear once or twice? You can find good suits for cheap there.

If you’re not going to be wearing it often than get suit separates at Belk or Dillard’s. Remember you want about 1/2” of short cuff showing and you don’t want the pants too long (slight break).

You can always take them to an independent tailor to get it fitted.

You should be able to do all of that for under $500 easily

Get the pockets double stitched.

It's a small expense and well worth the trouble if you have a tendency to carry the occasional heavy metal object.

I wouldn't pay a dime over $350 for a good suit
