FYI, I find the Mandeville Coffee Rani slightly better than the Covington.

Agreed. Mandeville Coffee Rani is one of my favorite breakfast spots.

Abita Roasting Madisonville is also nice with great views of the river. If you haven’t ordered the Pile of Bacon it’s highly recommended.

Covington has a super-cool mayor. His e-mails keep you up to date on events around town as well as infrastructure / budget type stuff. Sign up on the city website, mayor's page.

In front of the groceries / drug stores / city hall and at parks is a bi-monthly newsletter. Page 3 gives events - Over 100 free, live music acts per year.

Also, within in a radius of 5 blocks of the Trailhead there are 24 restaurants (no chains or franchises counted). Locally owned, in most the owners are on premise and / or in the kitchen. Cov was chosen #5 best restaurant in America by USA Today (fwiw).

IIRC, the mayor also posts on Tiger Droppings .

What are you talking about? Aside from obvious areas (i.e., proximity to lake or rivers) hurricane flooding isn’t a problem in Mande/Cov to my knowledge.

Downtown Covington has really improved over the last 10 years or so. The southern has a great bar, and the Haven coffee shop is a cool spot that sells drinks in the evenings and occasionally has live music. Our favorites have been Lola, and del Porto. The reminding is a coffee shop in Terra Bella that has surprisingly good breakfast / brunch. The anchor is a cool place too, food is ok but it’s on the water and has music occasionally. Cool place to watch a football game too.

You need to get a boat and start a regular run on the Northshore waterway swingers circuit. Look for Jody.

We enjoy Abita Roasting. Great food and nice to sit outside in good weather.

Covington is nice. But, yes, parts of it are dumpy. All along Collins is filled with low end businesses and vehicles that go with it. I’m hoping the elementary school is ok. My granddaughter may be going to kindergarten there in a few years.

Lola is awesome,

When they’re serving it try the octopus.

Northshore is full of tons of trash with money. Place is terrible compared to pre-Ida let alone what happened after Katrina.

How did you like Fairhope? I have seen a few articles that describe it as idyllic.

Liz's Where ya at Diner in Mandeville is one of the best little hidden gem restaurants ever. You will leave with a full belly and a smile on your face. Liz is absolutely phenomenal.

Abita Roasting downtown Covington is really good also. All you can eat catfish on Thursday nights too.

The trailhead is where it is at on Saturday mornings also!

I read that as a lack of culcha and crime.

Lots of basic recommendations that will be underwhelming.
Aki is the best restaurant on the north shore. Haven’t seen a single mention of it. Get a Bears roast beef once a week and you’ll be happy
