Check out a Sheltie. Large dogs have a ton of energy, and could be a problem where you live.

s this the thread where everyone says their own dog breed and claims that it is the best breed in the world and all other breeds suck?
I didn't. I have a Dane/Pyrenees mix and she is an idiot and sheds constantly. She is as sweet as can be and loves our small children, but other that, would not recommend.

Animal planet has a breed selector quiz.
It will help you find a decent match.
I plugged in some of the information that you posted and the results came back with these:
English Setter (Really pretty dog)
Bearded Collie
Collie
Gordon Setter
Welsh Terrier
American Water Spaniel
Chesapeake Bay Retriever (Another beautiful dog)
Curly-coated retriever
Alternate:
Am/English Foxhound
Pointer
Vizsla

I would recommend a German Shepherd but your requirement on not shedding takes a GSD out of the race. Mine sheds only once per year but it last 365 days.

Doggue De Bordeaux
Or Saint Bernard
Or really any type of mastiff. I own a Bordeaux(French mastiff) and she's awesome. Not overly active, so small spaces are fine as long as she gets out to the park. They also look intimidating, but she loves absolutely everyone she meets. Terrible guard dog(although she's taken out numerous wild animals with no hesitation, including a full grown raccoon without it landing so much as a scratch on her).

Shelties have a lot of energy and shed a ton. Don't stick one with this guy.

Standard Poodle -- seriously the best dog in the world. Lots of "personality" no shedding, hypoallergenic. You dont have to keep the typical poodle cut on him, if you dont want. You can shave him if you dont feel like brushing.
A standard poodle/poodle hybrid is about your only/best choice to get rid of shedding.

Health issues?
ETA:
Internet says they live 5-6 years.

None at all, but I keep mine trim. Bordeaux's have a tendency for health issues due to their broad chest and short muzzle. If you add in being overweight, they'll surely suffer.
ETA: speaking on mine as well as the generation above her, not the breed as a whole

We will have Danes forever. Really chill, great guard dogs, athletic enough to take for 5+ mile runs, great with kids. I personally would look at a pup like this in your area:

Standard or Giant Schnauzer.

Just a heads up: avoid any breed of terrier. Terriers are too snappy IMO. I've never met one that didn't have random fits of rage.

German Shorthaired pointer. Best dogs on the planet. Would need a jacket though.
