re: CDC Still Claim Vaccine is 2x More Effective Than Natural Immunity (Israel Report Ignored)

This data from the Oklahoma Department of health indicates that reinfections of previously infected people are occurring at twice the rate of breakthrough infections in the fully vaccinated.
This doesn't match what we are seeing in the hospital. Without even looking at source study and just going by your chart I can see a few huge confounding factors.
1) "Approximate Number of Cases Eligible for Reinfection" is simply the known COVID case count in Oklahoma by the end of June 2021 (September minus 90 days). Does anyone really believe we have detected even half of actual COVID cases? I suspect 75% have gone undiagnosed, especially in younger population. Contrast this to vaccination, in which we know the exact amount of people fully vaccinated.
2) An infection here is being defined as PCR (or antigen) positivity. PCR is excessively sensitive and should not be used alone to define infection. PCR plus compatible symptoms is a far better definition of infection. A person with excellent COVID immunity can become PCR positive by re-exposure followed by limited viral replication before T-cell immunity and antibodies eradicate the virus. This person would have zero symptoms and zero transmissibility.
3) The initial wave of infections peaked at least 6 months before the peak in vaccination. Normal decline in pre-formed antibodies would then give biased results, favoring vaccination.
The Israel study was really well designed to account for these confounding factors. Additionally, 27x protection against severe disease of previously infected vs. vaccinated tracks very well with what we are seeing in the hospital. That said, even if you have been previously infected, getting one mRNA shot as a booster six months later is a great idea.

Step 1: Make sure your family knows your wishes. Living Will forms are a good way to figure out what you want and a means to share that info your next of kin. Living Wills are more of an exercise than a legal / medical imperative.
Step 2 (optional): Fill out a LaPOST with your PCP and have it scanned into your medical record. This is the safest way to ensure you are not resuscitated against your will in the ER/hospital or kept alive using artificial means.

Flood Insurance in New Orleans
Posted by leveedogs on 12/11/18 at 10:22 am
Was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
I have a rental house in New Orleans close to Lakeview (I know, subtle brag). I let my flood insurance lapse in 2016 due to high cost but with plans to sign up again once the flood zones were updated.
My address is now flood zone X, so technically flood insurance is optional. Right now I have basic homeowners without flood insurance through Allstate but the premiums have been going up yearly so its time to shop around.
Google search is not helpful, couldn't find a similar TD discussion in search, and big companies won't give me a quick online quote for New Orleans. And my Allstate guy is MIA today. Which insurance companies should I call first who write homeowners plus flood for zone X in Orleans parish? Appreciate any recs!

re: anyone purchase their little kid a truck or jeep from Big Toys Green Country?
Posted by leveedogs on 9/5/18 at 5:14 pm to LSUvegasbombed
I purchased the Blade XR 4x4 from them earlier this year.
Pros include true 4 wheel power (a motor for each wheel) and foam filled rubber wheels with good traction. Has a horn, lights, and pretend radio with some pre-recorded kid songs. There's a simple plug under the seat to charge. The build quality is adequate. I did sink a few more screws into the roll cage insertion to make it more sturdy for lifting/dragging the car. The remote is helpful for when my son leaves it parked in the middle of the yard.
Biggest negative besides being a bit pricy for a kid's toy is that it is not water-proof at all. We try to keep it under a tarp since there's no room in our garage but 5 year-olds tend to be forgetful. After 3 days in the elements I found it water-logged and the ignition switch didn't work anymore. It runs again after I figured out a way to hotwire it under the hood.

3M WorkTunes Connect Hearing Protector with Bluetooth Technology
$40 on Amazon
$40 on Amazon
Would be on my short list.
- Price between GX460 and a 4Runner Limited is less than you would think and you will get what you pay for in fit and finish.
- Should hold up for 200k miles easy.
- Can easily convert to an offroad vehicle once it's no longer new and shiny. KDSS and center locking diff come standard. Take off side running boards, give it a 1-2 inch lift kit, and put on capable tires and this unit will handle mountain trails and mud like a Land Cruiser.

Voice of America is surprisingly fact-based and balanced, especially compared to MSM sources these days. It's government funded, therefore at risk for being shut down after next election cycle if they deviate too far from center. Don't expect VOA to expose government waste or corruption however.

This is my thinking, also. Really don't need a truck except for the 5 times a year it comes in handy. Never owned a SUV before and worry about missing the ease of hauling something in a truck.
4Runner with second row seats folded down gives you a nice flat space for cargo and even enough room to sleep. Power rear window is a nice touch too when transporting lumber. Unless you anticipate hauling manure, dirt, over-sized furniture, full sheets of drywall or plywood the cargo capabilities of the two are about the same. Especially if you have access to a small trailer or a full sized truck from family or friends for those rare occasions I would recommend the 4Runner.

how can you tell? I found about 50 wingless termites throughout my house this morning
I would say you have a problem. The swarmers all have wings and if a few get through the cracks your windows and doors during a yearly swarm it's not a big deal, nor a sign of infestation. However if you find hundreds of swarmers in your house or if you find the workers in your house (wingless with more of pale yellow color) then you likely have an infestation. And they have already caused damage if you are seeing evidence of them inside your home. Worst thing you could do is ignore it.
I don't work in pest control, just this is how I discovered my termite infestation 2 years ago in NOLA.

No votes for Victorinox? Right now you can snag one on sale with sapphire crystal glass (very resistant to scratches) for $90-$200 depending upon band material.
Did you try topping off your blinker fluid?
