I feel like this board needs an EBR municipal government 101 lesson.
1. The Metro Council presides over the entire Parish. Including the municipalities of Baton Rouge, Baker, Zachary, Central, and the future St. George.
2. The Mayor-President presides over the entire Parish. Including the municipalities of Baton Rouge, Baker, Zachary, Central, and the future St. George. There are some exceptions as it relates to city-specific services in the smaller municipalities.
3. The creation of St. George does nothing to the makeup of the Metro Council or the election of the Mayor President. If anything, it's creation will aid in a stronger voting bloc of conservatism in the Parish.
4. The Metro Council's current 7-5 split is pretty much etched in stone barring some massively drastic demographic shifts. In 2016, of the 7 republican districts:
- 1 ran unopposed
- 4 won the jungle primary, with the lowest republican % of votes at 66%
- 2 won their runoff, one against another republican, the other with 67% of the vote
I don't need a lesson. If St. George leaves, I believe the city and parish governments split meaning the government for the city of BR would be in charge of bocage. This would result in the city of BR with ~60% population black. The Gravy and Chauna Banks of the world would have 100% control over what happens to people like my BIL and sister. The MC may be the same and Broome may still be the Parish prez but not the mayor of BR or St. george.

Wicker was chairman of the COA when they ran off Dykes and hired Clark Amar.
I'm surprised people are so easily fooled.
Wicker certainly did the right thing in this case, but this one thing doesn't make her conservative or even a moderate.
She has a fairly long record of public service. Look into it before you decide to champion her for mayor.

The mayor president controls two large city services, BRPD and BRFD.
You should add that to your summation.

These people would vote for Nelson mandela as mayor to assuage their white guilt

SG or no SG, Bocage is still in BR.
The ratios wouldn't change. They would remain the same
Per the 2010 census 50.4% black
40.8% white
Since 2010 the 2016 population estimate shows a ever so slight decline in total population.

Thank you for posting this. SHOCKING how many people complain about government, taxes and schools based on pure ignorance of how these things even function.
I personally am much more optimistic towards BR than most. I think we have much stronger institutions and economy built into the fiber of the city than say a Jackson, MS. The issues we have are sometimes more attributable to the ignorance of the more well off citizens who can't be bothered to participate in making this place better.

Stuff like this happens and Better Together and Together BR are nowhere in sight.
Yes. Where the hell are the Better Together people to tell these clowns to STFU?
I know there were a lot of reports that other Democrats "behind closed doors" tried to get them to stop, but clearly that isn't working.

Her entire FB right now is nothing but attacking Tara.
I know those in Congress and to an extent, those in the state legislature, this attacking of people on the other side has kinda been, sadly, par for the course lately.
But I'm trying to remember a time where one municipal elected official went after another one like this, in any place. Certainly having lived in NOLA area and Houston area, I never saw anything like this on a local level.
And they are both Black Democrats.
We've truly entered another level here.

I largely agree with this sentiment. With the logic of the Chauna/Gary school and Together Baton Rouge, I have little doubt, however, they could run off Exxon over the next 20 years. But hey, $15 minimum wage and government backed jobs, right?

You must not read the newspapers.

That would be the absolute best irony if it happened. I believe their would have to be an election to recall but I don't know if that follows with an immediate vote for a replacement or if the MC would have to appoint.
I think under LA law, it's a two ballot process. You have the recall election. If she is recalled, a vacancy is declared, and from that point it's like any other vacancy. Appoint a temporary, then have an election at the next possible date to fill it for rest of term.

Has mayor Broome made any comments regarding the 4 abstainers and this lunacy?

Removing the consolidated government would require a vote of the Metro Council to then go to the ballot. That is after a petition is met by eligible voters.
Removing the consolidated government is not in the best interests of the MC, in particular, its 7-5 majority. Nor is it in St. George's best interests.

Maybe they should have thought about that before they decided to become rich and white.

She's scheduled a series of catered meetings to decide what she thinks about it.

She's keeping her mouth shut. If she, in any way, attempts to make peace or come to the defense of Wicker, Chauna and her slave catchers will turn their canons on her and attempt to turn the hardcore black activists against her.

Gravy is already kinda turning on her. I guess since she didn't immediately get in office and turn white BR residents into slaves, she isn't a good mayor....per Gravy
