Louisiana is home for me and I love going back several times a year to visit friends and family, but there are much better places to live in the US.
I've lived in both Arizona and Texas after I finished at LSU and both blow Louisiana out of the water.
I could maybe see myself moving back to Louisiana if the right job opportunity presented itself, but I don't think that'll happen.

Have you met more the. 1 or two people from CA? The people at my company (hell my next door neighbor) are fine, working upper middle class people who are down to Earth. The space cadets you are referring to are moving to Austin , Nashville etc.
LA needs an influx of intelligent, able bodied taxpayers. WGAF if they come from CA or NY

While the vast numbers of those crimes are committed in large population centers, those same crimes are still occurring in less populated places. Most any place with a noticeable poorer population of da cultcha, you get those same problems.
The job market in Louisiana sucks in certain fields.
Cost of living is reasonable outside of New Orleans because you're in... Louisiana.
There are friendly people and a-hole people everywhere.
Hunting and fishing is great here but that's not exclusive to Louisiana.
Food is great here but that's not so unique to Louisiana as it used to be. If you watch Food Network and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, shows like that, you'll see there is great food everywhere.
Out of everywhere I have lived in this country, California had the best food hands down. Between the seafood and the many cultural influences and the fresh produce coming from the central valley, the dining options were amazing. If you look at a lot of the biggest well-known chefs out there, a shitload of them cut their teeth in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

less culture huh?
You think Louisiana has less culture than MS? No way. Creole and Cajun influence in Louisiana culture is strong. MS has no culture to speak of.

The job market is not terrible for a poor state. You can find employment if you try.

You have drive thru alcoholic beverage stands.
My state still has 3 dry counties.

Way down yonder in the Bah-YO country in dear Ol' Louisianne. The best thing about La is in most places you can shoot a deer out your window, its small enough to get around the state relatively quickly, low cost of living (some places you can live in a palace on 100k), and the food.
Edit: yes and the drive through liquor stores and the lax drinking age laws were great as a kid.

Still have family there, they enjoy it. Particularly the cost of living, which goes a long way in QOL issues.

Moving to Louisiana would save about $500,000 in taxes over staying in Illinois for the rest of my career.
Illinois isn't close to LA in terms of being shitty. Big states with big metro areas are more expensive. LA doesn't have a real major metro area (nothing close to Chicago)

And when I get older, I can move to the Mississippi gulf coast to retire.
now we're talking shitty apples to shitty apples. MS is much cheaper than LA.

I also think that Louisiana people are some of the funniest people around.
Also, I think that the people here are incredibly kind.
We also have some pretty damn good writers-but then that really goes for all of the South.
I’ve been told that by many people who have moved in from out of state.

Everyone in La, and the South, is lightyears more friendly and kind than people up north. Even in Nola, the locals are all nice and you can tell a transplant simply by the way they carry themselves.
