Those times look terrible for anyone looking to make a Pelicans game.

Might work for an Noon Kick off of a Saints Game, any other time you are screwed and will have to spend the night.

I’ve ridden Amtrak in the NE because it’s relatively inexpensive, doesn’t take long, and dodges the huge PITA of commercial air travel.

With a little advanced purchase I have taken Amtrak roundtrip from BWI to NY Penn Station for less than tolls would cost. Not even factoring in gas.
There are bargains to be had

I prefer it over flying from Boston to NY because it’s more convenient vs airport and plane

The DC to Boston corridor is really the only place Amtrak works because it's got a high enough population density. Anywhere else it's a joke.

Which is hellish ironic because Eastern Airlines for a couple of decades was the go-to way to puddle jump DC to LaGuardia and La Guardia to Boston with "commuter planes". Back in the good old days when you could walk up, buy a ticket and walk direct out to the plane.

Seattle to Portland is a nice train ride. Both stations are downtown. Train starts in Seattle so it is always on time.

Looks like the NOLA/Mobile route is going to be 15.00 each way. That's not bad. Pretty cheap way to get to the coast if staying at one of the casinos.

I did it from ny to Boston but wouldn't do it where a plane is cheaper.

I've done it. It's a fun ride and the price and time to travel, door-to-door, is close since it drops you off right in Manhattan and you don't have to arrive at the station early.

Drive time from STL to Chi-Town is 4.5 hours, there's three Amtraks per day that make the same trip in 5 hours.

With all the stops between somewhere several states away, it would take all day to get somewhere.

I would, however, enjoy drinking beer while train riding

I rode the California Zephyr line, which travels from the Bay Area to Chicago, stopping in Reno along the way.

From Martinez, CA to Reno one time, it was a cool trip.

We went through the old mining country in northern Ca and Donner Pass.
