That all sounds really safe. Nobody slapping your kids around at school, nobody slapping you around in the neighborhood. Just safe, cozy, and warm. House looks very beta, but that's ok. Sounds like you're a very safe person.

That’s good, I’m sure you and your wife, along with her kids are very happy

Went there for a graduation. Literally no bars. Couldn't find a place to have a drink. Ended up having margaritas at a Mexican restaurant. Does not want.

Living in the suburbs is awesome.
8 minute commute
Custom home
Big yard, mature trees
On a bayou
No noise
All my neighbors are nice traditional nuclear families that share the same values as me.

Umm, none of those are very typical of suburbs.
Hell, even city folks typically have a longer commute than 8 minutes.
Custom homes are much more the exception rather than the rule, unless we're talking $400k and up
Big yard? I guess a half acre cul de sac lot is better than being in a townhouse.
Mature trees? LOL. The first thing idiot developers do is clear cut everything before they even put in the first road.
On a bayou? Mosquitoes
No noise? Other than Ricky testing out his new boat motor in the driveway next to yours at 8 AM on a SAturday morning.

I have James Beard award winning restaurants serving takeout and at least a half dozen places stocking bourbon within walking distance.
Also a steady stream of 20-somethings running past in varying levels of spandex covering.
But yeah, the burbs sound awesome with kids yelling in the front yard and worrying someone is going to call 311 on you.
Oh you would rather someone stomp around above you that is even closer to the houses you hate in the suburbs?

I guess this guy is too poor to get a whole bottle of that fancy bourbon unlike us in the burbs.

Cookie cutter DR Horton McMansion.
Possibly Nazi Home Owner Association.
People parking in your yard (read: not your property, but it feels like it.)
Attractive destination for yutes looking to check your car for valuables.
No thanks.
I live in the middle of town on 1.5acre lot, no HOA, there are no look alike houses in the entire neighborhood, and most important to me as i get older, I am 1/4 mile from a Emergency medical/ambulance station, and maybe 3 miles from two major hospitals with ERs.

I lived in West Loop (Chicago - Halsted/Randolph area) and enjoyed it. The restaurants, bars, and entertainment in that area is flat out awesome now. That was my first experience living in a real city and I absolutely loved it - especially in the spring. Everyone should live in a place like that for at least a year or two.
I now live in the suburbs. When the weather sucks or I’m riding out a pandemic, I like being here. I have access to Instacart, Door Dash, etc. and a massive kitchen. I am at a point in life where day cares and public schools are more important than an urban lifestyle.
If I were 10 years younger and single, I would move to South Loop. That’s just not me anymore.
