Whats the appeal to living in Houston or Dallas and being crammed up each other's asses and stuck in traffic all the time?
If you work in oil and gas and your goal is to be promoted to the top you will eventually move to Houston.

Sounds like there is going to be a spectacular bust in the future...

Definitely not just The Woodlands.
I've put in 4 full priced offers in Pearland & Friendswood. Have yet to get a taker. One property was under contract before it actually listed.

True, but Houston and Dallas are not culture cities.

My dad has it "lucky". His company puts him up for two weeks a month in Houston, then he comes home for two weeks, then back.
he hates the traveling and hates to be away from home, but he would hate to live in Texas even more so he puts up with it.
Not an option for someone younger with kids etc.

My friend sold his house in Austin for 80K over list to an all cash buyer

Can Baton Rouge real estate ever do as well as this?

Damn. I thought it was getting pretty good in my suburb when houses would list for less than a week and people started putting in backup bids.
What's going on in The Woodlands is insane. Is it spilling over into Spring and Conroe?
For the BR comparisons: FWIW, Baton Rouge was pretty hot right after Katrina....but I don't remember it being quite like that.

A lot of my friends do at least one week a month in Houston. My dad turned down promotions his entire career to stay out of Houston

May have an opportunity in Mont Belvieu soon. Then again, my last opportunity fell through, so what the frick do I know?
Mont Belvieu is next on my list though, so we'll see. Looks like that area is growing fast too. It's just far enough from Houston that I don't have to put up with that clusterfrick and just far enough from Lake Charles to give my mother a heart attack for taking her babies away.

I have lived in Houston before and I do appreciate the city. There is plenty to do there, and I laugh when people say there's no culture there. I don't understand the hate.
I don't care for most Texas suburbs and the housing styles....but not all of them are hideous. I may be in a position to move to Dallas soon, but the thought of paying $450,000 for a house on a tiny lot with no trees is a drawback. Probably not enough to overcome the benefits of living there though.

Correct. Northern Virginia is the same. Neighbor sold her house in 1 day with multiple offers.

Nope.....the school services we have are unmatched.
The best schools in CISD still rank behind the best schools in FBISD and HISD. FACT!

hisd has 4 hs that are good, and 3 of those are specialty/magnet schools ... the rest suck ...

Bought a home in The Woodlands last year, a home with the exact layout and square footage on my street just sold for 30,000 more than what we paid. Life's good

Look at the Rayford Road corridor on Riley Fuzzel Road. Not The Woodlands but some nice neighborhoods. Spring Trails, Harmony, and Bender's Landing are 3 of the nicer ones. Prices are a little more reasonable. The new parts of The Woodlands are in Tomball. You don't even have a Spring/The Woodlands address. Riley Fuzzel Road will be the Grand Parkway so there will be construction until next year.

Distant cousin lives and works there, been there as long as I can remember. I want to say Valero is where he works.
