I turned old, I only really like music from the 60-90's now.

Of course it's hyperbolic, but let's not act as if the vast majority of it is some high form of artistic achievement.

Nothing but garbage music.
I mean, seriously, what would be considered the iconic songs of the last 10 years? Blurred Lines?
Slate polled a lot of music critics, produces, etc. and came up with 30 songs they predict will be classics in 20 to 30 years.

Easy to dominate when mainstream media is pushing the hell out of one genre.
If mainstream media decide to push another genre you will see a change.

I hope your kids blame you and everyone like you for destroying music. Regardless, they’ll surely laugh at you and all your foolishness.

Traditionally the biggest consumers of music are teenage girls (not exactly the smartest cross section of society)
I'm not sure how that has evolved with the streaming era but they're probably still the biggest consumers

What’s the alternative? Country music is garbage. Rock is dead or dying. Music today is pure shite.
That would be mainstream music. Ever since my days as a college DJ, I've loved new, non-mainstream music. And now it's easier than ever to find it! Yeah, some of it is really off the wall, but the payoff is worth it. Try some stations like WITR, KCPR, KUOM, KEXP...the options are endless.
And here's a list of the top 2018 Albums that are definately NOT mainstream. Sure there's some rap on it, but there's lots of other interesting stuff...
Sounds of Consequence 2018 Top Albums
The point: there IS an alternative, always has been, always will be. But like in the past, you have to work a little.

As that music gets more popular, the average IQ of the population drops.
That stuff is crap, the people who make it are crap, and the people that listen to it are crap.

I don't think I can name one that's been good in 20 years.
Teenage girls control what's popular. Shitty pop, bro country and rap.

Popular music is the "OMG, it has a great beat!!!" crap
On a deeper level, music is art. People identify with a melody or lyrics that take them to a time or place. I don't identify well with rap or modern country.
We're way overdue for a leap in consciousness where people feel meaning in their lives and art reflects it.
