Most people have no taste in music.

Phelps hasn’t revealed his playlist this year – though the wrote that it is a mix of Eminem, Young Jeezy and the country singer Eric Church.
He told the Guardian back in 2005 that he likes Eminem, Dr Dre and Notorious BIG. He had even gone to a Snoop Dogg concert in that year and met the rapper the Game backstage. “I didn’t get to meet Snoop. He doesn’t ‘meet’ people,” Phelps said.
Rolling Stone published a few of Phelps’ warm-up jams in 2012. His “solid gold hits” included I’m Me and Right Above It by Lil Wayne – “That song made me want to finish strong and look forward to life after swimming” – No Beef by Afrojack and Steve Aoki, Levels by Avicii and Go Getta by Young Jeezy.
Phelps and the rest of the USA swimming team did their own take on James Corden’s popular carpool karaoke segment ahead of the games – though it’s unclear if they used his personal playlist. With Phelps at the wheel, he sang along to Chicken Fried by Zac Brown Band. Even a phone call from his mom couldn’t interrupt Phelps from jamming out.

There was a study done after Phelps revealed what he listens to and while I don't remember the details, it showed that because of the bpm of a lot of rap songs, it can have a mental and physical benefit for people who listen to it before or while doing physically intense task.
And for those who think that music isn't music if it is created digitally, that's just the evolution of music. It's like the guitar. When the electric guitar was invented, all of a sudden it allowed guitarist to create sounds that was once never possible. The keyboard is an evolved piano.
But like all types of music, you have rap music that has simple lyrics and it's all about the beat, but you have artist who can put down some good shite.
Just some lyrics from some of lil waynes songs that come to mind.
"Arthritis in my hands from writing, but I am a doctor. They don't understand my writing"
"You don't know how sick you made us, I want to throw up, like chips in Vegas"
"Im fricking awesome, until awesome has a child for me"
"Like the wave pool at Blue Bayou. I wave fool as I blew by you"
He has a lot more, I like to listen to his music just to listen to his play on words..

I don't identify well with rap or modern country
Most of it is crap. There are a few good traditional country artists that I like now. I'm a big fan of Cody Jinks.

I once read the US audience for rap is 75% white
Black people make up 13% of the US population. With a population of 300,000,000. Black people makes up 39,000,000.
With 77% of the population being white, that means there are 231,000,000 white people. If 5% of white people like rap, that is still a little over 11 million rap fans. if 5% of rap fans are black that is just under 2 million rap fans.
And to think rap music appeals to "liberals", this is what some rappers were saying about "black lives matter".

Yeah, those are some real liberal views.

It's just shitty music. I don't care about their political beliefs. Hell, Merle Haggard and Willy are/were left wingers

I was responding to you saying "most people don't have good taste in music". I consider myself a music fan.
People listen to different types of music for different reasons, I was just using that as an example.. I kind of got off my message, but what qualifies you to determine what is good taste in music?
Music comes in many forms and it is a continuing evolution. Artist take what other artist created and build off of that. To just dismiss music today is staying stuck in time.

And while I like some of there music, there are people who disqualify their music as not being music.
They were good at creating their type of music, but I have heard people say "they can't sing a lick" and what a lot of people consider singing (whitney houston, Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Frank Sinatra, Tony Benoit.. I could go on.. People who can hit different notes.. those types of people), they can't, but for the music they created, no one else could do it like them.
