Does it ever seem like as soon as you’re exposed to something, you then encounter that same thing elsewhere randomly very soon after first encountering it.

Like if you learn a new word and you all the sudden see that new word like 3-4 times in the next few days?

I guess you could say that it’s subconscious mind games or whatever. I’ve seen people argue that before. Like you aren’t seeing that new word any more often than you were but you’re finally just recognized it.

I don’t quite by that argument. Because I think I would recognize something new no matter what and look it up.

Anyway, my random example that surprised me so much is I just finished a biography of the 1st Earl of Pembroke, organizer of the Magna Carta, , William Marshall, 2-3 days ago. Veryinteresting g FWIW but very few people know about Marshall and his importance. He is said to be the examples for King Arthur. But anyway, I’m moving on to other things.

Fast forward to like 10 minutes ago. I was playing Vampyr. It includes a cult of vampires. Who all worship William Marshall, First Earl of Pembroke! What the hell? The characters even drop a line that shows the writer has been reading the same random biography I have.

Like what are the chances Of running into two different references on an extremely extremely obscured subject in two entirely different mediums and two entirely different genres. That just kinda boggles my mind and makes me feel slightly sophisticated!

Yeah. The new word thing happened to me a couple times. That's some crazy shite, huh?

It's called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon

To a point.... but the phenomenon you mention seems to be about non-descript occurrences. I think there are varying degrees of it but like in my example, my brain wasn’t subconsciously trying to build a connection. The media was blatant but unconnected. There’s no new realization of impact waiting to burst forth. It’s simply kinda odd that I see things referenced in different ways so soon together

My example is a little different. I'll think of something or someone that I hadn't thought about in years. Then in a very short amount of time, I'll see that person in either real life, in a photo or hear about them or that thing referenced in conversation. It seems to happen in spurts too with several examples occurring over a couple days. I haven't had one in a while though.

Been living in my current house for over 15 years. I spent half of my childhood in the woods catching snakes, turtles, spiders, etc. I know my critters. A couple years ago we’re at a neighbor’s party and another “outdoor” guy starts talking about brown widow spiders. I’m thinking, “What a dumbass -there are black widows and brown recluses, but there’s no such thing as a brown widow. This dude is confused.”

Well after I get home I google it, and sure enough, brown widows are a thing. Lesson learned. How did I not know about this all these years? Then around a week later I’m taking the dog out at night and notice a big spider web under the window sill on my porch. I check it out closely with my flashlight and sure enough - red hourglass on a brown spider. Brown widow. Then I check out the rest of the porch and there are half a dozen brown widows in webs under all my window sills, bbq pit, etc. I kill them with fire (and I’ve posted a couple threads with pictures of the brown widows I’ve killed). A week later, they are all over the porch again. Since then, I find and kill at least 4-5 dozen brown widows in webs on my back porcheach summer. Killed 2 dozen in ONE night this summer. It’s a goddamn infestation of venomous spiders I didn’t know existed until right after this guy mentioned them.

This happens all the time with music. I listen to classic rock radio quite a bit. However, every now and then, someone will introduce me to an old so g I’ve never heard before, and they’re shocked I don’t know it.

As soon as they do so, that song is f$&king everywhere. The last time that happened, it was “Black or White” by Michael Jackson. I had never heard it before, then suddenly, the fm radio stations I listen to started playing it every damn day.

Every time I’m open to new job opportunities, I’ll go on a couple of interviews to test the water. If I don’t get a call back for one, I don’t get a call back for any.

I was very interested in a new position and went on 2 interviews and got an offer on both within 3 days.

The same thing happened 5 years ago when I took my current job.

That kind of stuff happens to me all the time.

Like for instance I'll do a Google search for where to buy a lawnmower, then later I'll see Home Depot zero turn mower ads on my Facebook page.

if you ever heard me in interviews, you wouldn’t think that. I’m a horrible interviewee and I have no idea why. Very social with great communication skills until I’m sat across from someone who’s job it is to hire me or not.

It’s a curse that’ll likely haunt me forever. That’s why it’s a coincidence when I get 2 job offers at once.

Just happened to me with 'Undun' by The Guess Who.

Heard it for the first time last week on Pandora I believe. Since then I've heard it multiple times on the same radio stations I always listen to, and in an auto-shop waiting room. Weird.

Was in Karlsruhe last year and inadvertently stumbled upon this while jogging.

Was reading a book about the Baader-Meinhof gang on the flight over.
