Love the company all you want, it will never love you back.
Your career won’t be there to wipe your arse for you when you’re old.

Find the guy who gets paid for what he knows, not what he does. Find a way to learn more than he knows.

HR will always suck, doesn’t matter how nice they may seem, what company it is or who they are. Never trust them.
Always assume Senior leadership is oblivious to everything and will more often base decisions on perception rather than actual facts.

Yep, pick something you love is poor advice. It doesn't matter what it is. After 15-20 years you're going to be sick of it.
Instead, pick something that pays well and put yourself in a position to either retire or work light hours after 15-20 years.
If something you love happens to pay well, then go for it. But make pay potential your top priority.

Fake it til you make it actually works. If you just show up on time with a positive attitude companies will often tolerate some incompetence. I am certain there have been many times where my employer realized I didn't know what the frick I was doing or talking about but just was like frick it he's a nice guy he'll figure it out how to do the job eventually.

If you can't handle your personal business on company time, then you have a time management problem.

In many fields the best way to get a pay raise is to quit your job and get a new one every 2-3 years.

You can either make someone else money, or make it for yourself.
