I don't think some of you understand what a typical "rainy day" in the PNW is

no doubt

I doubt Louisianans would even consider some of the "rainy" days in the NW as rainy days

you know those misty, foggy mornings in the fall that we get? those are the NW "rainy" days for the most part

the rain is vastly overrated in the NW, its the thick cloud cover that gets to most people

I recently saw a similar list that was extended to include mid-sized cities as well. LA, MS, and TX had 8 of the top 10.

You could be in Portland and it's raining, but it would take you 2 hours to get wet.

you have obviously been/lived there. I haven't but it just seems like the streets are usually wet...is my perception wrong?

I could see it getting depressing. But man, the outdoor life that is possible up there seems amazing.

Having lived in both Louisiana and Washington, it does rain far more often in Washington. Last year I was there it was a perpetual state of overcast skies from October to May.

Like someone else said though, the rain is heavier in Louisiana.

the Pacific NW gets misty rain and cloud cover, but rarely do they get heavy torrential downpours like we do

This the correct answer

I had someone give me this yesterday. Facebook facts I call it. The Pacific Northwest is the only other region, other than Hawaii and Alaska, that get 100+ inches a year. You can use specific years, for example BR got over 100" last year, but the northwest is the wettest. You can make specific statistics say different things based on criteria, but the Pacific Northwest is the wettest, just like you knew your whole life until yesterday.

I think rainiest means different things to different people in this thread. To me it means the conditions are rainy more than sunny. To some others in this thread it means accumulation total.

A one hour downpour here may have more accumulation than 10 hours of rain up there...to me 10 hrs of rain would make it the rainiest

I've always loved Corpus and thought it would be a great place to live/retire.

Nah, we have a similar climate here. Large, coastal rainforest and we get over 200 rainy days a year, with anywhere between 55 and 90 inches of precipitation including 100" of snow.

The rain keeps the air clean and fresh and on most days isn't really enough to hinder outdoor activities. When the sun is out, it's spectacular. The temperate rainforest is incredible. Mist hangs in the trees on the mountain slopes, it's green, extremely green everywhere you look.

And the sunny days more than make up for the misty ones.

100 % agree with this. It's beautiful up there. I was stationed a Lewis McCord and it rained for 47 straight days at one point. But total rainfall was less than 24".

But I would trade 1 clear day for 30 overcast days there. Unreal scenery.

You described wettest vs rainiest but your point is valid
