I just went up to Seattle to visit family. First time ever being up there. It "rained" one day and it reminded me of a dreary winter day down here. Light mist til about 10, then wearing sunglasses for the rest of the day.

And it was 78 degrees.

And we slept with the windows open.

And I had to wear a jacket when I finished up my round at Chambers Bay.

And you get to see shite like this.

A one hour downpour here may have more accumulation than 10 hours of rain up there...to me 10 hrs of rain would make it the rainiest

that is fair

although I don't really consider most of the PNWs weather as "rain"

at least not from a southern perspective

Portland - 167 days

yea...frick that

It can suck but that's when you head east over the mountains to Central Oregon where they average over 300 sunny days and 12" of rain.

Also....I never get swamp arse in Oregon.

I prefer the crashing down and thunder, and inches of rain in 15-20 minutes.

Before Lee Trevino got knocked to the ground by a lightning strike, I used to go out and walk in thunderstorms.

We are working a shutdown at a papermill outside Tacoma WA and the project manager called me for something and I asked how the weather was. 75 and sunny, I told him to kindly go frick himself because it was 99 here yesterday with a heat index of 110.

Food isn't as good but I'm surrounded by white people. Good thing I know how to cook.

Pros and cons.

I have a cousin that live in Washington now and she loves it.

She is from the New Orleans area.

I asked her about the rain and she said basically the same thing as the other poster on this board. She said that you have to get used to everything being kind of wet and cloudy but overall it does not stop them from doing things.

She also said with all of the different clothing options you can get stuff for the weather and go about you day.

I was stationed at Ft. Lewis for 3 years... when I tell people that a lot of people don't use umbrellas, they always look at me like I'm crazy... It does rain a lot but it's WAY different.

That is a big difference

Number of days with a heat index of 95+ per year:

New Orleans - 85 days
Seattle - .2 days

Number of days with temperature of 90+ per year:

New Orleans - 56
Portland - 11
Seattle - 2

That's a big difference.

If it was not for my wife I would already be living in the PNW, a rainy day there doesn't even keep people form riding bicycles to work, and the drivers there seem to know how to drive on wet roads. Even with the ridiculous amounts of rain drivers in South LA, the drivers there drive like it is the first time they have experienced a wet road.

True. Generally if you get cold or wet, you're just unprepared and dressed incorrectly. My wife used to hate the cold before we moved here (couldn't stand anything below 60) but now she has no problem with it and loves winter.

Number of speckled trout I can catch a day in S. La - 25
Number I can catch in PNW - 0

That's a big difference

I love the winter, but I absolutely hate driving on snow or ice. Dealbreaker.
