re: Question on HOAs and fines

I don’t disagree with anything you said. I have no problem fixing the issue. My problem comes from the fact I never received notification of the violation or the fines. I actually was on the board at one point and voted against hiring the property management company and they didn’t. Then I had 3 kids under 4 and didn’t have time to spend worrying about the major issues of the world such as mildew on the side of a house or dealing with people who can’t pick up their dog’s shite.
Once I left he board, they hired this property management company and the issues have started. Several of my neighbors are in similar battles over a mailbox that needs to be painted or a small flag in the front yard with the initial of their last name.
The difference between your HOA (wtf is a POA?) is you seem like a reasonable human whereas the board on mine is a dictatorship.

Sounds a lot like our HOA. Board is down to like 3 people and they've so far refused to hold an election. They hired a company out of BR to manage everything, and about half of our dues go toward paying their fees.

No, the board hides behind the PM company. I know the president and asked if they voted and her response was I don’t know. Cowards.
We did request a board hearing so now I will face those dingleberries myself. Also, we don’t have enough people on the board now that they voted someone off because of this, they need additional board members. Idiots.

I do. And so do 90% of POA covenants out there.
We just have different standards. No worries. I personally don’t want my neighbors parking in their front yard, overflowing trash cans and rubbish on the side of their house next to me, un-mowed grass, broken down privacy fence....the list goes on. I signed up for this neighborhood because they had the covenants to help maintain house values which is important to me.
Just because someone else didn’t know what they signed up for doesn’t excuse them.
By the way, most people in my neighborhood take care of their yards. But if you want to enforce one occurrence, you have to enforce them all. If association members don’t like it, there are means to change it if there is enough support. But that would involve people actually working after work so we know how that goes.

Property Owners Association (not all lots are homes).
Gotcha. In my POA, if you told us you never received the previous letters and had paid to have the issue fixed, we would not fine you. I agree you Board isn’t showing much grace there.

What are everyone’s thoughts on Crime Prevention Districts that are spreading throughout the Baton Rouge area?
Posted on 4/19/18 at 12:08 pm to GoHoGsGo06
Every time you say "POA" it is reminds me of the idiots on the news using ISIL instead of ISIS. Use HOA like everyone else in the thread (it is in the title), otherwise you look like an idiot.
My neighbors got a letter because someone can see their A/C unit from the sidewalk. They replied that the A/C unit was there when they bought the house years before when the area was being developed and told them to pound sand. Nothing ever came of it. I get letters at least once a year from these tyrants for one lame thing or another: My son left a soccer ball in the front shrubbery for two days. I think most of the issues are the old people who walk the neighborhood have nothing better to do.
Good luck with your appeals.

HOA’s and people that enjoy them suck. I won’t be living in another again.

Not sure what you are on about. The legal entity name of my POA is “XXXX Propery Owners Association”. So I’ll keep calling it POA if that’s ok with you. Thanks.

Update: The one board member who was trying to help us out and talk to the property management company was just voted off the board for interfering.
That's all kinds of fricked up.
Sounds like you HOA has too much time on their hands. Y'all need to get a pool or sports complex/playground/park put in so time and money is tied up in maintaining that.
Also, ask the fired board member which of your neighbors complained and ruin their lives.

run for the board along with enough sympathetic neighbors to dissolve the board.

You sound like a prick. Wouldn't buy a house if you showed up at the open house and saw the trash can visible?

Yeah I'm calling complete BS on them voting someone off for one incident. HOA's have pretty strict rules, you can't just do something like vote one member off because you want to. We were only allowed to hold elections once a year unless we had a quorum of 33% agree to do it.
I'm also calling BS on them not mailing you. First off, there's a thing called Certified Mail which literally everyone sends anything legal by because it is proof it was sent and received.
Lastly, you have very minor issues. Get off the damn internet and spend 60 minutes complying with the HOA and you'll have all of your issues fixed. None of that sounds that absurd.

There are some other issues with this individual as they were sticking up for about 5 other neighbors with BS fines. The board member voted off was the one who told us so I’m going off her word. She did send us the e-mail where the PM told her he would refer her to the board to have her removed so I don’t know why she would make it up.
Certified mail works great and I agree wth you. These aren’t legal notices and haven’t been sent through certified mail so there goes that argument.
Also, if you didn’t read it, I said I fixed the issues immediately after finding out they were even issues.

There are two kinds of people. Those who don't care what other people do (within reason) and those who want to control others based on their own sensibilities.

You are coming off as a huge prick. Who gives a frick about trash cans!? Where are they supposed to go? What’s wrong with parking a trailer in my driveway? I bought the mother fricking house. Not you.
