Simple question here:
Does Pipe Dope and Teflon make a seal when applied to the threads?

yes, depending on what material they are applied to

Bruh we're already discussing EBR's decriminalization in another thread.

Pipe dope and teflon do two things:
1) reduces friction and protects the threads as you tighten male pipe threads into a female pipe thread
2) helps seal the mechanical joint from leak

Use the actual materials you are supposed to use.

Pipe dope helps with the seal on pipe threads. Never cease doesn't seal. It is not meant for pipe threads. It helps keeping the nuts from ceasing up on the bolts making them easier to break loose. You only apply never cease on the side that you want to break loose. Teflon tape is also used on pipe threads.

Use one or the other. Not both.
Of course they help with the seal, that is what they are for. Use the thicker mill tape for gas connections.

Why do you need both?

It helps seal when its used on pipe (tapered) threads. It fills the imperfections on the surface of the thread face so that they can seal against each other. On joints where the threads are not the sealing surface (o ring boss, ORFS, JIC) it isnt doing anything.
You can tighted the piss out of it and the threads will deform enough to do it on their own, but its not the right way.

I don’t need instructions on how to use either one. My teacher told us today that they do not make a seal, they allow you to thread on and off easier.
So I brought this question to my place of work. All of the engineers said they absolutely do not make a seal. All of the shop guys said they definitely do and that the engineers were retards. Haha

If pipe dope doesn't make a seal, I don't know what in the hell it does.
