Because to retire I would be at home all day with the wife. Nope... rather be at work.

In that rut know. 3 years away from retirement. Been here 24 years and now just going thru the motions, managing my N American sales team of 6.

I am getting close to 30 years in my profession and honestly, money is not the prime focus like it used to be because I could have retired 5 years ago. I haven't because my wife still wants to work, I don't want to travel alone (which is the only thing I don't currently have time for) and I still enjoy what I do. The primary motivation for me now is the fact my job is gladiatorial in nature so someone wins and someone loses. While I can lean on experience a lot I still have to put in the work or I lose. There was a period of 4-5 years I hated going to work but when I got to the point I could dictate what cases I took and which ones I didn't I started to really enjoy my work again. At this point, I am still motivated, have fun at work, and am probably better at my job than I have ever been and it really helps that my staff and my associates are the best group I have had during the 16 years I have headed the division. They all are highly competent, willing to work hard, and hate losing as much as I do. I wouldn't doubt I will still be working 10 years from now and it switches to my wife asking me to retire instead of me asking her.

Maxing out retirement accounts, keeping a roof overhead, and maintaining hobbies/fun away from work.

Moved 8 times in my career
Different Cities was my relief

Would have hated to be in the same office/ building for 30 years

The things that motivated me at 20 are fundamentally similar to the things that motivate me now. I still enjoy women, cars, my kids, my hobbies, physical exercise, and so on.

The things that have changed aren't all bad: more money, and much less of a need to prove myself.

I've checked most of the boxes I wanted to check in life. I can relax and enjoy it. My main fear is that the rest of my time will pass in the blink of an eye.

Well, sometimes I consult with my motivational speaker, Johnny Walker.

And other times, I get in an argument with Colonel Blanton and he fires me up.

It's likely not that work sucks. It's that your time off sucks. Gotta make the most of your time off. Otherwise, you feel like you're working for nothing.

I love my current job. I am responsible for how much money I can make, it's in a role where I know the content inside out, I get to work with Clients I like, I work remote, and I make 3x what i made at my last agency job. Which was soul sucking.

It's great. I like working.

I’ve never had any motivation to work. I only do so because I have to pay my debts and my bills so I can keep on being fed, clothed, and sheltered. I work so I can afford to do my hobbies that I enjoy and which give me a sense of purpose which my job does not.
This. I love to travel and I can't travel without money. I have significant health issues and my husband was fine with me no longer working. But that curtails my ability to travel as much as I want to so I keep working. And not enjoying it. But I enjoyed the heck out of booking a trip today!!

Simple, I just don't work as much anymore. I guess I would be considered semi retired. Luckily the old lady makes OT quality bank so the few bills we have are paid. I just make fun money.

Me too. I hear about those people who win millions in the lottery and say they are going to keep working.

I think those people need psychological counseling.
