Prick your wife's finger to get a blood sample for testing just to be sure that she is not the culprit.

Are you sure they're going to run it? It can be expensive...

I don't know why she would steal her own jewelry or her own pistol... but cant hurt to eliminate a potential suspect.

That is a hell of a question. I assumed they wouldn't even come collect samples had they not intended to. Why create an evidentiary log if there was no need?

I think the officers collect as much as they can as it's just a swab but the decision to send samples for testing is part of the prosecutor's discretion (and budget)...

ETA: sorry that happened to y'all- hope they catch them.

They broke in with the intent to steal... That would be burglary.

As for as their sentencing. It will probably depend on their criminal history.. But burglary is a felony right?

We honestly think they cut themselves on the knife they stole or the door to the shed they tried to rip apart. We couldn't find any glass with blood on it.

Many leo's will charge them with theft but since theft is a provision of the burglary then i think double jeopardy is involved and the theft is dropped.

If you live in LA then it would most likely be Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and Theft of a Firearm for the incident itself. Whoever is found with your gun would be charged with Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Whoever is found with your other items would be charged with Illegal Possession of Stolen Things.

If they cut themselves bad enough maybe they were stupid enough to go to a hospital.

That system is updated slowly, if at all. It is expensive to run DNA and enter into CODIS so it is often just not done.

Backlogs of DNA rape and murder samples tested are catching criminals from 30 years ago.
