Question for Army officers

The incoming commander of the First Cavalry Division is a Brigadier General. The article makes no mention of his promotion to MG nor have I been able to Google it anywhere else. Is this a new thing? LINK

Question for Army officers

You're bothered because he doesn't have two stars instead of one? If he does the job, IDGAF. Stars don't equal competence. I bet you were a fan of using candidate pictures for branch selection rather than PT or other factors. 6'3" black dude with a jacket that needs to be custom made that is a nursing major? Clearly infantry.

Chill dude. I was just curious.

It's common since brigades are normally commanded by bird colonels these days.

Does my time as a No Limit Soldier count?

I was in the KISS army for a night...

Can you enlighten us of his previous (5) predecessors?

That escalated quickly.
I took it as him being curious if divisions are no longer commanded by O-8s and are now commanded by O-7s. No different than when the Air Force transitioned to colonels in wing command instead of BGs.

IDK about the previous 5. The article states he's replacing a MG being promoted to LTG.

Sorry, I took it as a typical situation of tradition must be maintained. Are you unqualified because you weren't an admirals aide while you were getting your PhD? Well, maybe we're asking you to run a helicopter squadron, and you were flight lead that everyone wanted as a mentor. But, you are a year short in grade, so f off to Korea!
I desperately want the best person for the job, full stop. Top 5% in your class and get a Longbow? You clearly need to be to Rear D because you know how to type. (true story.)
Not trying to escalate, but looking for logic in Big Army is a fool's errand. While I'm less exposed, the fighter mafia out of the USAF has similar issues (tactical efficacy vs congressional or command support.)

Obtuse1 and Centinel should be checking in shortly.

Probably going to be promoted soon.

Did you ever deploy, leg?

He likely is in line to be promoted as the army has limits on how many slots there are for each star. It is common for someone to be “promotable” as they wait for slot to open
Another potential situation, nearly every general officer at some point gets involved in a congressional or IG investigation. They typically don’t promote until it closes
Knew a guy who waited >2 years for his second star because of a cost overrun from his successor that he ended up fully cleared

My guy has inhaled too much Agent Orange while looking for Charlie

This isn't just the U.S. Army, it's also the military in general. If his billet is a MG billet he will be promoted to fill that billet. His promotion, however, needs to be approved by the Senate and they are in recess right now.

He is probably a BG(P) (promotable). Ie the decision is made that he will get MG but just waiting on the actual promotion date

Rank is a reflection of your pay grade not leadership ability

It's not uncommon to get promoted after taking command.
In the general officer ranks, not too much difference between a one and two star. Huge jump in prestige when you get three stars.
