My dog has his own sofa that no one else sits on. It's out of the way of the regular parts of the house. Other than that, he's on the floor

When we bought nicer/more formal living room furniture, we decided no more pups on the couches. Instead, we bought them suuuuper nice pet beds that they have in the living room (when we don't have company).

My lab has a dog mat made to put on the sofa. We have it in the middle next to my spot. It’s his space and he loves to lay there cuddling next to me. I let him sleep in the bed too. Don’t really care what anyone thinks, he’s family to me!

One of the reasons we bought leather furniture was so our two Goldens could lay on the couch and dog hair wouldn't embed itself in the fabric.
Leather easily wipes off.
If you keep your pets clean, wipe their feet when they come inside, and bath them regularly, it's no big deal.
We don't let our dogs in the bed though.
Well, our younger Golden is both spoiled rotten and charming as hell, so he manages to get in the bed every now and then and not get the boot.

My daughter's dog only has 3 legs that work, so it doesn't jump on anything.
