That’s the truth. That’s why teachers should be paid more and should be taken care of better than they are. Teachers shouldn’t have to be celebrating a virtual day off on social media because tax dollars are being spent on BS instead of going towards something that really matters. It’s pretty clear to me that not one dime of American tax money shouldn’t leave the USA until every legal citizen is taken care of.

Did anybody seriously say "teachers are heroes" until they refused to go back to work after COVID lockdowns?

Yeah, teaching was considered by many people to be an important and probably underpaid profession.

But I don't recall the word "hero" being used for teachers like they're soldiers or something. Until they started acting like the exact opposite of heroes during COVID.

I wouldn’t want to work 8 months for 50k, but they also know what they are signing up for

Yikes. I believe the OP is referring to how inadequately the teachers manage their large amount of time off, while simultaneously inconveniencing parents who properly manage their time off. No one is saying their fetish is being in a classroom full of kids year-round, except you.

"Teachers need a day to prepare for their job but it’s ok to take another day away from the parents who were expected to show up to work Monday morning prepared after the holidays?

Not to mention most parents had to take vacation this Thursday and Friday, not necessarily by choice but because their kids were still home."

Get yo self a damn nanny then

From what I’ve seen on Facebook, a lot of parents weren’t even aware of this particular day off, and they’re frustrated about having to miss work to stay home with their kids—especially when school was supposed to resume as normal.

Sounds like a lie

Apparently, this kind of thing happens a lot, where the school district decides last-minute to switch to virtual school for a day. It’s no wonder so many parents are upset - but, they gotta' make the teachers happy!

They deal with so much shite throughout the year and are grossly underpaid. Give them a day if needed.

It really is wild that when they finish college, they are forced into these jobs making so much little pay while working 180-190 days a year and typically have good to great benefits with no advanced notification of what’s expected of the job

Thank you!

I don’t complain though - I knew going in the pay would suck.

This wasn't some spur of the moment decision. The school calendar comes out 18 months before the first day of school. The parents were notified plenty of time in advance and had ample time to arrange child care. Stop acting like you know anything about this.

Well, these days, almost everyone is expected to work from home in these situations, regardless if you have kids or not. The pandemic fricked everything up for parents with small children who make it tough to work from home.
