You won’t find many well educated people who make very comfortable wages arguing that teachers are overpaid and whiny.

This. You'd have to pay me 6 figures to even consider that job.

I love these teacher threads

Most are guys that would quit within 2-3 months.

Between red tape and shite head kids, you wouldn’t be able to handle it. I tried teaching my kids at home and quit within a week.

Teachers should be the highest paid because of the terrible education system. The higher the pay grade, the higher the quality teacher. The system is awful and antiquated and needs to be reformed. We are still using procedures for kids that were used in the 40s and 50s. Screen out the moron teachers that don’t care. Raise the pay grade and you’ll start seeing more people that would be excellent at the craft.

Just like anywhere else, payrate attracts quality. Keep the price where it’s at now and you’ll never see a change.

Imagine going to college for 4+ years, getting a job paying apparently $20k/yr, and then having the audacity to blame your decision making skills on everyone else.

That's what liberals do about everything in their fricking lives. Its disgusting.

You know what you don't hear them bitch about?

You don't hear them bitch about the 3%-6% automatic pay increase they get every year.

You don't hear them bitch about receiving stipends to cover hotel, food, and airfare expenses for Continuing Ed or career development.

You don't hear them bitch about being off all summer and the long holidays.

You don't hear them bitch about the early retirement or healthcare.

Man I used to believe this, then I dated one.

I saw her bring work home once, maybe twice. She had to go in on maybe 1 or 2 Saturdays in a year for orientation type stuff. She went into work at the same time as me, and was home well before I ever was. Meanwhile, I was busting arse and stressing over a 50 to 55 hour work week.

Then summer hit. She spent 2 months complaining about being bored while spending half of every day sitting out by the pool at her apartment. Complained I was never around because, surprise, my work didn't just stop because it was summer. Proceeded to cheat on me, then dump me (didn't find out about the cheating until after the breakup).

So yeah, frick teachers

$20k-$40k a year. It’s turned into a glorified underpaid daycare.

Yeah, but it's all the underage arse that makes it pay off in the end

20k is not the minimum

West Carroll is $20,418, ten parishes are under $25k. Prior to the Haynesville shale, Red River was around $13k.

First, adjust for months worked.

Now add the incremental benefit of teacher healthcare plans over the average private company plan.

After that, add the incremental benefit of defined benefit pension plans that basically don't even exist outside the public sector anymore.

THEN compare the total to the marketplace.

But most people can be a teacher. There is a difference between a teacher and a good teacher. But pretty much any one can be/become a teacher. Wages are on skill. And there’s not that much skill to just being a teacher.

This mentality is why our schools pretty much suck.

Is there any other "profession" where good, bad, and average are all paid about the same?

Of course, teachers give up the "profession" argument when they want a union. Being part of a union means you are just a laborer, not a professional.

Because I know you IRL, you would make an amazing public school teacher if engineering doesn’t work out.

If you're in Texas, 60k to work 9 months is a pretty sweet deal.

What if we created a program where we took the most highly qualified teachers from India to fill gaps within the public education system similar to the H1B program for Tech workers.

You mean like LSU used to do with Asian and Indian grad students, so they could open up more sections?

I don't know if they still do that, but it used to be that way back in the day.

And when that does allow you to weed out bad teachers, you think there is a plethora of new teachers waiting to take those spaces?
