35k in Ms. But you know that going in. People who complain about teacher pay are stupid. I know. I am a teacher.

If those were the average salaries, I'd agree with you.

Teachers have to face state standards and they pay for their own schools supplies.

frick being a teacher.

What is stopping these teachers from applying to different schools in better paying locations?

Sounds like they need to call the bank and see if they’re hiring

Not sure what you are going for here. It’d be great if teachers were paid based on how well they did their job, but that’s something that is very difficult to assess since all students and backgrounds are different.

Your logic is sort of odd. By your account, we should make the teaching job more attractive and rewarding for good teachers. In turn, you can weed out bad teachers and improve the overall level of education. How do you go about doing that?

More then a lot of police. I wouldn’t be a police officer for $100,000 a year now. Americans dirtiest job.

What if we created a program where we took the most highly qualified teachers from India to fill gaps within the public education system similar to the H1B program for Tech workers.

Agreed. Most spend way more time at home too doing work and buying shite out of their own pocket too for their classrooms. I don’t think they should make 6 figures but 60k at least IMO starting out.

Those salaries are maybe true in Alabama. Here it's a pretty sweet gig starting around 35k and ending up around 85k with a masters or phd or switching into administration it's easily 6 figures. I don't get the idea teachers aren't paid. They're paid nice especially for the time they work.

A school year is 180 days. Add on a few in-service days, and they barely work 6 months out of the year. Teachers have been bitching about being underpaid since I was a kid and that was back in the 70s and 80s.

If anything, they're overpaid.

Thank God nurses don't complain as much as teachers... Who would take care of the actual Covid patients instead of the possible ones?

When I was in school, school supplies were pens/pencils, notebook paper, notebook, and maybe a few folders.

My kid that's an adult now used to come home with school supplies lists that the teacher had made out that were over $200 and included things like paper towels and "candy to be handed out as treats".

I'm sure that some teachers pay for things out of their own pockets, but most get a spending allowance for their classroom. And others just make ridiculously excessive lists and get the parents to foot the bill.

Underworked and underperforming lately, as well.

I’d say $20k is probably al little better than they deserve honestly.
