This has got to be a joke. Dude is complaining about having to celebrate Mother’s Day and his fathers bday before he gets a month off.

I wonder how many people who lost their father would love to have such stress in their life.

You’re right. I did that last semester until said loved one passed away.

Disagree. A “mental health event” differs from person to person.

Wut? I’m complaining about not having the time I’d like to celebrate with them. I’d love nothing more than a round of golf and a beer with my pops on his birthday.

Who? Some moron who has to drill holes for a living? I doubt they’re working 65+ hours.

Any white collar professional working 65+ hours a week without extensive PTO is either a specialist in the medical field or law making bank or someone who made poor life choice

tell me you've never owned your own business without saying as much!
My wife is a solo equine practitioner. I guarantee you she works over 65+ hours a week by the time she does all of her own administrative work in addition to everything else. And she volunteers for other shite as well. Its all part of being the sole proprietor and making the business successful. Now, I think she's foolish for not getting more help or managing her practice differently, but it works for her. And she doesn't whine about it, either.

Bro you have a job that affords you more time with your family than 99% of the rest of the people on the planet and you’re saying you might get PTSD.

Oh, so you don’t like people dissing a profession they haven’t worked within? Interesting…

Well, how do you know she doesn’t whine? It sounds like y’all barely have a relationship at this point with that schedule.

Most likely something like Bain, McKinsey, Deloitte, IBM, etc.

Make sure it's a global role, and then nobody knows what timezone you're in. When I was in Asia, I got more done in 90 minutes being 13ish hours removed from the US than I could in two days if people knew I was in Texas. Are you on a plane? On a train? In South America? Nooooobody knows.

Funny coming from a pilot with crew work restrictions.

Overall, everyone, especially dudes, need to learn how to say no. Use kids as an excuse if you have to. Don't do things out of guilt (being volun-told to work prom, etc.)

Why would he work harder when teaching is effectively prevented from rewarding hard or effective workers, over the shitbags that claim they have national guard drill 15 days a month?

This guy sounds soft

So you have a busy month full of events that if you do it the right way, you’ll enjoy yourself and build lifelong friends and memories

I honestly thought this was going to be about a teacher getting depressed that he’ll say goodbye to the current crop of kids he helped mold into better people, but no, it’s a whine about having to work 2 Saturdays

What a pussy.. my advice, keep being a teacher, because you’ll never make it in the real world

Are you suggesting the 9-4 plus being at a concert or sports banquet (set up, tear down, etc) from 6-9 is a cakewalk

Yes. Because it is.

And "working" from 9-9 is 12 hours. with multiple built in breaks. If you're including that in your "65+ hour weeks" your math is not correct.

quote:

I would gladly intensify the 9-4 portion if it meant I could leave after school and spend an evening at home with my wife.
most people work longer hours than 9-4. And those people dont have off periods and lunch periods. and 12 weeks of vacation.

I didn't diss a profession. I dissed your soft-assed response to the demands of the profession you've chosen.

that's not whining and it's not bragging. it's just facts. And the best part is, I acknowledge that there is, in all likelihood, a better more efficient way to do it. But its the way she chooses to do it. Unlike you, no one whines about it.

This month is like hell for me. Yes, it’s the end of the school year, but with that comes an endless stream of awards ceremonies, banquets, fine arts performances, graduation, and even a state competition on a Saturday. Of the 23 weeknights this month, I have an event on 12 of them. I also have 2 Saturdays where I will be working a total of about 27 hours.

Now, take this and make yourself a guidance counselor/career planner during this week. Then, add in the fact that where you work is the most politicized pile of shite school system out there with people who don't like you (or each other), won't do their jobs, and constantly work to undermine you to the point that the majority of the work this time of year falls on you.

I have a family member dealing with that right now. They have been dealing with that for several years now. They deal with either incompetence or outright shittiness daily. It has made them much better at their job, but it has been a pain in the arse. They have two more years to reach full retirement.

Good luck.
