I’m not sure I follow. Are you suggesting the 9-4 plus being at a concert or sports banquet (set up, tear down, etc) from 6-9 is a cakewalk. I would gladly intensify the 9-4 portion if it meant I could leave after school and spend an evening at home with my wife.

dude, you're not swinging a hammer, or drifting pipe, or cleaning a cooling tower, cleaning bedpans, intubating an OD or a car wreck victim. You're not landing a planeload of people in low visibility conditions, or even waiting tables at these events. And you're not providing care to a dying loved one or sitting in a hospital with them as they undergo chemo or recover from a life threatening event. You're going to banquets and folding chairs! The horror! You remind me of the viral Starbucks barista crying about his 8 hour shift with no breaks.

This is no different than the fatigue people experience with the Christmas season (parties, get togethers, shopping, spontaneous visits from acquaintances, meal prep, Christmas eve/Day responsibilities.) or the fatigue associated with most weddings as they approach the big day. None of these (including your BS) are mental health events. They just aren't that taxing. You've got 12 nights out of 30 for this one month that you have to participate. and two Saturdays our of 4, where you have to participate. I just don't see how that qualifies for the seriousness with which you are treating it. Its annoying, but its not a mental health issue.

Only things that help me is no alcohol, no caffeine, regular exercise and breaks. Real breaks. A week at the beach, a week at the camp, a week hunting. Its a good reset and always brings me back to normal. May and December are always like that. Too much fricking shite to do. Its not enjoyable anymore.

I'm a SPED teacher. It's insane paperwork time for us. Plus, our kids are getting anxious, because they know their schedule is about to change.

Bc there are none of them or they fail drug test. Ship builders can’t find them either. My friend is over recruitment for large ship builder. He said they all fail drug test.

Of the 23 weeknights this month, I have an event on 12 of them. I also have 2 Saturdays where I will be working

Sounds like every month for the last 9 years for me. I get 2 weeks vacation. I rarely take the full 2 weeks and I’m usually working when I’m on them. Sorry your life is so hard. Hope you find some mental help.

Teachers bitching about workload like no one could understand is always a fun time. Congrats. You're an adult with a job. Shut up and go to work like an adult.

Yeah. Your reward is more vacation in 2 months than most people get in 2 years and it’s not even your only vacation that year plus you get every holiday off and free periods and everything else.

Do the parents not do the set up and break down? I figure if the parents want something elaborate, they need to step up and do most of the work. We are involved in one sport that is extremely involved but it is all coordinated and executed by the parents. The coaches may need to make certificates/awards and show up for the awards ceremony but they don't do any of the set up or clean up. We do have one sport where the coaches don't want parental involvement and things are extremely simple. The awards ceremony will simply serve cupcakes afterwards and I think that is more than enough (I don't even think cupcakes are necessary).

I feel like sometimes the schools do too much these days. There is always something going on with activities and spirit weeks. I'm exhausted as a parent trying to keep up and I sure as heck don't participate in everything. See what you can eliminate or scale back on or delegate to the parents or booster clubs.

He was probably failed by a teacher who was too mentally exhausted to help him after only getting 8-12 weeks of vacation a year.

If you choose to work some of the weeks you get off it's not any bodies fault but yours. The fact is you get a TEN WEEK vacation and you choose how to spend it. But with that said...teachers are under appreciated...but also you get 10 weeks off so it's a bit hard to feel too bad for yall.

My reward is a summer that lasts about 5-weeks. Rest assured, I’ve done the math this year and the number of 65+ hour weeks I’ve worked makes up for most of that time.
This is why people dislike a lot of teachers.

You know how many people pull 65+ hour work weeks that don't get 5 weeks off a year? It's weird y'all don't even get it.

I agree with the rest though.

Glad you have enough time to carry a TD thread for 10 hours. Most people can’t due to work.

He’s a band director. He doesn’t get ten weeks off.

We’re not talking about someone who is teaching a few math classes and then going home at 3pm.

I’m a teacher and I don’t have to do any of that shite. All of our sponsorships/clubs are voluntary. Are you at some super high performing Magnet School or public academy? If so, that’s kind of the trade off for not dealing with the general population of students.

ETA- just read that Band director part. Yeah dude, that’s the business you’ve chosen.

Either way, you’ve got the right attitude. I average about 46 hours a week at school. Sometimes, I just bottle all that frustration up until I’m home next to a beer and a cigar. And frankly, it works for me. Mental health has never been that much of a challenge to me though.

Who? Some moron who has to drill holes for a living? I doubt they’re working 65+ hours.

Any white collar professional working 65+ hours a week without extensive PTO is either a specialist in the medical field or law making bank or someone who made poor life choices.
