PSA - knife safety UPDATE

Just a re-reminder for everyone. Pay attention to your blade when cutting anything I know I know we’ve all heard it, but at 56 years of age, I have managed to cut the shite out of my wrist, including severing the owner artery while camping in Yellowstone.
Stupid me careless moment and a trip may be ruined all because I wasn’t paying attention to my Blade when I was cutting something. 14 stitches a life flight and two hours of surgery due to carelessness.
shite I have done thousands of times safely one moment boom.
Update:
I ended up discharged within 26 hours - I wanted out. Hospital in Idaho Falls was solid but I don’t like hospitals.
For those busting my balls over the spelling I was using talk to text Ana apparently “ulnar” confuses it.
It went across the road not down it.
Vacation was cut short, headed home on Saturday after gathering gear Friday night.
Thankfully my two sons flew in to help me pack up the camping gear. It would’ve been a challenge otherwise.
Everyone at Yellowstone from the Rangers to law-enforcement to my fellow campers pitched in to make sure I made it to the ambulance to the helicopter into the hospital. Very appreciative of everyone involved.
I will update with billing information once I have it. I have no idea currently what the cost is going to be, but I’m sure it’s not cheap.
I ended up with a tourniquet on my arm for roughly 6 hours range of motion, and my hand is good no feeling in my thumb index and pointer feeling fingers, but feeling has returned to my ring finger and pinky on the affected hand and I hope the rest will return overtime.
All in all a very solid reminder to pay attention to what you’re doing in the moment you’re doing it when you’re working with sharp shite
The female flight nurse was hot for those asking.
If in extreme pain and offered fentanyl be careful, that shite works extremely well.

Were the nurses hot?

I'm around your age, and I know what you are talking about. It's like a lack of awareness, my mind is somewhere else. I have to make myself slow down

Glad to know that you are alright. I am curious as to the final bill for the Life Flight once you get it-- if you would share?

damn I hope you recover fully.
What were you cutting on? I took the end of my thumb off sharpening mower blades a few months ago, something I've done a hundred times. It's the routine things that'll get you.

What were you cutting or trying to do?
Posted on 7/10/26 at 1:27 pm to Mid Iowa Tiger
Yeah man, knives can be sharp.
You didn’t die, so I’d say the trip was pretty good.
