Widening Staring only to make it 35 is a goddamn crime. The politician who either lives there or has family that lives there should be thrown in jail.

We already pay roughly the same overall tax burden as Texas and Tennessee residents with shite to show for it.

And that's the big problem coupled with all those families who have to pay private school tuition.

What needs to happen is real reform. Want to raise the gas excise tax rate? Let's cut out some of the bullshite entitlements. It doesn't even need to be dollar for dollar, but anyone who's been to a Walmart on EBT day knows the system is broken.

If politicians showed the citizens they remotely give a frick about fiscal responsibility, they would probably get more money.

So that is a big wall of BS.

I mean there is stupid and then there is fricking stupid.

It's fricking stupid to continue to choose to give money to crooks who continue to piss money away and line the pockets of their buddies.

So no....frick no....I'm not nearly as much to blame as they are.

Ok so let me ask this. First where do you live? In East Baton Rouge Parish?

If yes, did the dedicated tax for the Green Light plan not provide the exact results it offered when it was voted on...i.e...4 lane roads with curb and gutter, sidewalks and medians (all of which were overwhelmingly requested) in the time frame allotted and within the tax dollars allotted?

If it was not spent correctly and stolen by "crooks" your term not mine than who stole it and what was not done that you thought you voted for?

Just who's buddies pockets were lined?

I mean these are accusations you have so I expect some concrete proof of this happening. Suspecting it is just a "big wall of BS."

This thread is about East Baton Rouge Parish so if you live here make an honest statement regarding this particular tax proposal. If you don't support a property tax, I get it-if you don't support a sales tax I get it, no taxes ok. But what is the solution? The "until they quit not spending my tax money the way I want it spent" doesn't get a fricking Road built.

If you don't live in this Parish than kindly shut the fick up.

The fact that we had to waste time even arguing to raise the speed limit should tell you something

Didn't Frieberg go into some hyperbole about the next dead child from the raised speed limit was on Delgado's hands or something like that?

The proposed tax would not have upgraded major arteries like Airline Highway or the regional highway network.

Baton Rouge has taxed themselves to make important progress with their congested surface streets.

It's time for the state and Feds to start covering what is their responsibility. How Airline Hwy is still only 4 lanes through most of Baton Rouge is beyond me. I-10 through town should have been widened to 8 lanes a decade ago. LA30 needs to be widened. A bridge over the Amite at Hooper should have happened by now. Another bridge over the Intracoastal canal in WBR should have been built ages ago. None of that is entirely the responsibility of EBR taxpayers.

I'm genuinely curious what got better from the last time LA increased the state gax tax....this is recurring revenue so theoretically it should be continuous improvement or at very least staying the same quality.. Texas and LA have the same state rate on gas yet you don't drive on shitty interstates in Texas......at least I don't which basically includes San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, and South Texas.

Excise tax rates don't really take into account inflation like sales tax does. It's based on gallons removed at the terminal or when it breaks bulk.

I would also like evidence of that tax being misused.

So while BR has clusterfricks like the COA, CATS, constant "studies" for projects that will never happen, paying a criminal rapper to teach kids how to deal with cops, etc... you really think that the BR government will efficiently spend money taken in from tax increases? Do you think that increasing taxes won't have an effect on money leaving the parish?

Green Light was a huge success. It will continue on as planned. Those tax dollars are dedicated by EBR voters for specific projects, and they have been getting them.
