The white man has spoken.
As bad as our roads are,
no more property taxes!
Pass a sales tax, but you're not squeezing us for more property taxes.

I'm an Ascension resident and I agree EBR property owners shouldn't have to shoulder the load in regard to the region's roads

These worthless fricks mismanage the money they already have. Until they get more efficient, they shouldn't get a penny more.

This wasn't the sole source of the argument for going against the tax though.

Are the property taxes in Baton Rouge fair? I know in some parishes, you can have two people living side by side, with the same amount of property, with houses similar in value.. And one pays $150 in property taxes and the other pays $900..

For people who lived somewhere for a long time, they continue to pay what they paid when they first bought the property.

The grossly overestimate the property value in general. I want to call the assessor and ask if he's willing to buy my house at that price.

Funny how the assessors never get out there very quickly when housing prices take a shite.

My parents recently looked into selling their house after their property tax appraisal went up.

It was about 15% above mkt value on a sub $250k house

I'm clueless to the whole proposition of these taxes, but if you live there, don't you use the roads and therefore benefit from improvement of those roads?

I'm sure there's much more to it that I'm missing, but at face value, it doesn't seem unreasonable.

But then again, it is Louisiana.

The property taxes are fair and from my experience updated timely.

That is the parish assessors fault. They are elected so some only reassess after a property sale. Others use comps to reassess frequently to occasionally.

Let's put it this way.

It was estimated to cost $20 million and take 2 years to add an exit ramp off the interstate. 2 fricking years. These people are incompetent and don't deserve to get more funding.

Since this one won't make it past the council, the Greenlight tax wasn't passed and the gas tax for the state did not even make it out of the committee just how does anyone propose we fix the traffic problem and substandard road situation in Baton Rouge and the state of Louisiana?

Trumps infrastructure bill will not include Louisiana.

Just looking for answers.

So the answer is "because Louisiana" makes sense
