Raise prices!!!

Pampers, toilet paper, paper towels...all getting price increases...that'll have em coming back!

The price of covering little bottoms is going up. Procter & Gamble announced this week that it’ll be raising prices on Pampers in North America. The company’s also hiking prices on Bounty, Charmin and Puffs.

P&G is getting squeezed by private label and new companies entering the marketplace that often sell at deep discounts.

That’s actually a pretty standard pricing strategy. Differentiates your product in a crowded market. Consumer will assume your product is better because it commands a higher price.

They could make Pampers $200 a pack and my wife would still get them

We used that strategy at a restaurant I worked at after the recession. Everyone else was cutting corners and lowering prices. We were using better ingredients and raised prices.

Kirkland and huggies > Pampers. For some reason pampers wipes burns up our kid's arse anyways.

Yep - fairly tried and somewhat true method of dealing with private labels.

P&G did this with Gillette with quite a bit of success until Dollar Shave Club and Harry's came along. There isn't really a DSC/Harry's analog for diapers, toilet paper, and paper towels out there right now because, I would think, the customer actually buying the products is different (and why there is no DSC/Harry's equivalent in women's shaving). Women buying personal care products don't tend to be the most price-sensitive consumers, to say the least, and I suspect P&G has figured out that they are making the large majority of these purchases for households.

I have a hidden box of Target brand diapers that I sneak on Sun God Jr when Mrs Sun God isn't home. Life in the fast lane

Interesting. I saw an article earlier today that said their raising prices was due to the tariff spat we are in with much of the world currently. Prices for wood pulp have increased. Interesting that the articles have two totally different explanations for the price increases.

Yeah but they're not losing business due to just an oversaturated market, they're losing business to Walmart and dollar general brand toilet paper and paper towels because of price difference and because it's toilet paper and paper towels. The diaper thing is what it is, parents will go for expensive shite their first go-round and then loosen up on the 2nd one.

Weird how kids can be so different. Every diaper i have tried, except pampers, leaks with all three of my kids.

And the huggies wipes turns my little girls bottom bright pink.

Personally, i would use the cheapest shite available (that didnt cause irritation or leakiness). Wife insists on pampers

I remember buying a pack of huggies wipes over Pampers when my kid was still in diapers. Wife never let me live that down. They would fall apart easily. I didn't thi k there would be a difference, but there was. We fathered the amazon or store brands over huggies

And that's why we use none of those brands.

Transportation costs are up significantly, prices should be rising on many items.

Specific to diapers - they have to raise prices to grow, diapers are not an expandable consumption category. The combination of declining birth rate, better technology (you need less diapers in a day vs history), and the rise of quality private brands means you must raise prices to grow.
