was definitely around 14k for the 8th grade a few years ago in BR. It gets more expensive as they progress

I just looked at the STA and SSA sites and they are at $10k. I think Hannan might be a little more. I was sending my kid to ASH in New Orleans so I know they can get a little pricier.

Bro, just send em to public schools, whatever happened to you in HS you can't shake it and will trickle down to your offspring. Most parents can figure out what is best for their kids without the OTs help. I know tons of good and bad kids from both private and public schools..but somehow EVERY kid you know from private schools are "shite heads"

Have kids in both
Public can be really good
All depends on where you live
Kids can find trouble whether they go to public or private

Most of the private schools around here for the 6-8th grade range are about 14 a year and get more expensive the higher the grade

In BR this is certainly the case. You might be able to pay 10k for elementary school but by JR high you'll be well above that, particularly after all of the fees you pay that aren't in the tuition amount.

My child is worth all the money in the world to me. No question in that, But the money could be spent doing other things for him rather than the K-12. I’m not saying I’m against it, I just wanted to see what everyone else thought.
If you're in the Hammond area spend the money and drive east to St. Paul's or Hannan without a second thought.

But that’s just for the very high end. The Catholic schools are going to run less than that.

I just don’t know much about the Hammond schools. However on the Northshore, it seems like either decision is fine. Some doctors, lawyers, and CPAs sent their kids to catholic schools and others went the public route. In general, everyone ended up fine.

And unlike in Baton Rouge, the kids who attended public schools certainly didn’t go there bc they were kicked out of the good private schools.

Public schools in EBR are like general population.

Private schools, especially the catholic high schools, are like prison camps where you get detention for short socks or sharing your lunch. And the rules are different depending on the parents, $$ and other stuff that is a little shady.

Basically, kids are screwed.

That’s one man. Catholicism isn’t one man.

it is different than even ten years ago around here——public schools suck and every private school here is busting at the seems.

i sent one through public and he finished 12 years ago—he really wasn’t prepared as he should have been in math but caught up and is an engineer. My other went public till eight grade and then private.

No possible way I would send a kid to public school today. It is the government schools and all that entails versus private schools.

And woke Catholic schools are not the norm but do exist.
It was over 15 years ago so woke wasn’t nearly as woke as it is now, but I felt the teaching at Catholic High was fairly liberal. Especially from Religion teachers

And recently, during the George Floyd shite, they had current teachers posting all over Facebook for BLM. As an Alum I wrote a letter to the School a principal I was so angry

Seems like hyperbole, but "Oh no! Rules to follow."

Orleans parish is just about all private through charters and vouchers and even with the background of the kids they score about in the middle on state test—-a testament to the power of school choice.

I went to a “great” public school but the kids who went to the nearby catholic school simply blew away my classmates (on average). Even if we ended up at the same college, the post grad results were quite different (again, on average)

I slummed it at LSU but was in the Honors College to start. I was there with kids from all the big schools. Jesuit, Brother Martin, Episcopal, Catholic, LSMSA, etc. There was no difference outside of like 3 of the top-shelf LSMSA kids b/c they loved doing school. It wasn't even an intelligence or output thing as much as they just loved being in school and being the perfect representation of a drone in that setting. They're the only ones who stuck it out the whole way (all the really smart people got out once we had priority scheduling).

There are no good public schools in Tangipahoa parish. Go look at the ratings at Louisiana Believes on the state department of education website

It depends where you live, really.

However, living in the Madisonville, Mandeville, Covington area I can tell you right now that you could not pick out where these kids went to school if they were in a public place. They all act the same, and look the same.

If a kid goes to St. Paul, Hannan, or any other private school, it’s simply a flex by the parents. They love saying their kids go to private schools in an area where the public schools are just as good.

Now in NOLA…kids are almost required to go to private schools to get a good education.
