Previous kid child support?

So one of my best friends married a girl with a previous child, they had twins, after two years girl decided she wasn’t happy and they divorced. He now pays for 3 kids child support along with spousal, why is he responsible for the third child that isn’t his? Isn’t she double dipping?

Well damn how are they going to punish a guy for wanting to do the right thing? She said they needed to change the daughters last name so that in school she won’t be picked on for having diff last name than him

If he was married to kid's mom and was the breadwinner/provider for the stepchild during marriage, there are quite a few states that will enforce that stepdaddy continue to provide for former stepchild.
