Acapulco in the mid 70's was still a resort town for the rich and famous. It had fantastic hotels and nightlife. Now it's full of Federales that are scared to patrol for fear of taking a drug cartel's bullet. There are places they'd never get out of alive just uphill of the beaches

Istanbul

Don't think I'd go back there right now. Hopefully things get better in a few years.

Baltimore is probably #1

Memphis and St. Louis are both up there, though.

New Orleans doesn't really qualify, imo, because some things about it are actually better now. The three above are all demonstrably worse.

Haha. I've been in Baton Rouge for over a decade now, but I feel like it gets trashier and trashier every time I go home. I don't know if has always been that way and I just didn't care growing up or what.

What was so special about Berwick, or was that just a random, tongue-in-cheek example made in jest?

I guess you can say port Gibson, MS since it was apparently too beautiful to burn.

What turns these places into shitholes? Seems like someone could identify a common cause and either get rid of it or prevent it from spreading to other cities
