Maybe. The problem is that it's just old. No new development of any kind, so time has passed it by. Time gives the things from the 1800s and early 1900s their charm, but it is not kind to shopping centers from the 1970s and 1980s.

The shithole parts of Chicago, for the most part, just look like shitholes from what I've noticed. The nice parts are nice, and pretty much seem to have always been.

Chicago

Spent a couple of days there this past month for the first time. Downtown is freaking gorgeous especially from the lake and millennium park.

too bad it's pretty much a shite hole outside of that and the fact that I went in the non-winter months.

Almost any major city in Germany outside of a few in the eastern part of the country(Chemnitz, Dresden, etc.)

Any major city in England.
Any major city in France.
Amsterdam, Brussels, etc.

What turns these places into shitholes? Seems like someone could identify a common cause and either get rid of it or prevent it from spreading to other cities.

Most of those places seem to have let their suburbs shithole-fy, while preserving the aesthetics of the city center and immediate surroundings. It's sad more US cities couldn't have done this, but a few seem to be doing it now.

c'mon man, don't you read the OT and PT? The only white people left in Europe are living Anne Frank style in attics and basements. All European cities have been over run by dirty muzlems and Sharia Law is everywhere.

And no they have never "actually" been to Europe but they believe all that as gospel.

I know what you're trying to get at, but the answer is money, or the lack thereof. When the money moves to the suburbs, a lack of money fills its place.

There was a time when I thought Mobile was a pretty cool place.

In high school we used to go use our fake IDs in New Orleans and in Mobile. We were lured by the "Dauphin St. is like Bourbon St." claim.

Who said that's what the entire city looked like? No one.

Somebody said there were parts of many major European cities that have sections that look like The Gaza Strip.

This is true. This coming from someone who lived in Europe for over 3 years and is married to a European.
