With the highs reaching in mid-teens to low 20's next week, is it the wind that will knock me down on my arse or the cold temperatures? Or both.

Low's are expected in low teens and even single digits with winds that are expected to be around 20 mph.

Gloves and ear protection are the obvious. Thermal underwear necessary?

Thermal underwear won't be enough, thermal condoms are a must.

Under Armor helps a lot when I'm in the cold. Are you out in it or just traveling in it a little. If it's the latter man up and don't be a pussy.

Layers. Winter coat. Scarf or muffler if you are wearing a coat that doesn't button to the chin or lacks a high collar. Warm footwear. Gloves. 180s or a hat.

Sustained 20 mph winds are not particularly strong for the city, but you will feel appreciably colder when it inevitably knifes through the fissures in your outfit.

And you can just take taxis to minimize your exposure to the weather.

Don't yall get snaps like that in Texas sometimes? We certainly do here. You'll be fine.

It's the wind that will got you. Layers, loose clothing and cover the head and ears

Probably, but I know from experience that they'll bring out some cots for you to sleep on when your flight is delayed overnight.

This. Been up there a few times in the cold. One time temperature was -1.

I'll be there for 5 days and will have my fair share of being out in the elements in the day and at night.

Don't forget your bullet proof vest. I heard it rains bullets there all the time.

I'd bring a scarf too. When it gets really cold I wrap it around my mouth and nose. Basically you just want your eyes exposed.

the cold isnt' so bad as long as you're dressed for it. Dress in layers.. wear some tights underneath your jeans, good socks, good boots, etc. and you'll be fine. Hell, I think it feels pretty nice to be outside in the brisk air while dressed for it. It's like being wrapped in a blanket.

This unless you are going in and out of places. Businesses generally have the heat so damn high you will be sweating with that many layers. This is the furthest I've made it in a Chicago winter without breaking out the winter coat.

Ooooh, highs only in the 20s with single digit lows? Oh, how will you ever survive?

I guess this is what it's like for Louisiana people to hear northern folks complain about 80 degree "heat waves".

The most underrated thing is warm socks and waterproof footwear. Once your feet get even a little wet you are fricked
