That’s actually a pretty brilliant way to hide your ship. Unfortunately though, radar/sonar make the smoke screen obsolete these days

So much stuff like this is unknown to most. I learn something new that happened during WW2 all the time. Railguns, huge curtains of smoke to hide ships, wooden stealth jets and other crazy shite.

Actually in those days. Radar was being used in WWII and became a big factor.

That’s true. Radar did not become popular until during the war though. The Nazis thought the British could pick up their planes because they just had really good eyesight when in reality they were aided by radar

My first job in the army was a smoke generator operator. We could mix graphite in and disrupt radar and electronics.

Never used in combat as far as I know. We only had them for a few years before we went all NBC/WMD/CBRNE.

The Nazi's arrogance helped defeat them for sure.

They did a good job of making the viewer realize how boring being at sea is.

ETA: it was a good movie but come on, it some some boring stretches.

The US Army used Huey helicopters with smoke generation equipment in Vietnam to obscure landing zones from the VC and NVA.

Looks like those could be useful in Portland to keep the soyboys from videotaping real police work.

Awesome stuff man. Those savage Japs.....just unspeakable stuff they did. It boggles the mind why the European front gets so much more attention when America truly paid the price in the Pacificm
