True, but early radar was basically an "A scope" which only gave range to target and size of target. No bearing information was available until "B scopes" came around later in the war.

And FWIW, the marines still use this tactic during amphibious assaults.

Mid to late war.

Not the era when this film was made.

And even then, only the US and Brits had blind-fire capable control systems so this tactic would be useful against say Japan.


No, the lack of utility of this tactic came more from naval warfare not being two ships of the line ala Jutland maneuvering around each other anymore but rather increasingly aircraft based.
