I quit drinking when I found out my wife was pregnant. It meant shite had gotten real and priorities changed.
I don't have any good advice or wisdom for you. I am just chiming in to let a brother know that there are others out there on your side.
Also, it seems as if those running the AA/NA meetings would have a playbook on the best ways to proceed, and what your best personal options may be.
Good luck Baw.

Good on you for wanting to sort your life out. I've never had anything to deal with in my life as far as addiction related, but have had quite a few family members and friends who have dealt with them over the years.
It is a huge lifestyle change of breaking old habits, cutting yourself off from the things and friends that helped feed the addiction and doing your level best to stay the course.
Good luck and I wish you all the success to put this behind you.

Well said Iona Tiger. There are some things you simply cannot do by yourself and a support group is vital when things get sketchy and those old cravings start to claw at you.
I've heard some folks say AA/NA are too Faith based and it's not for them, but you don't have to buy into it if that is not your thing. Just know the folks there are all going for the same reason and that is to kick their addiction.
Congrats for your years of being clean.

I lost 2 cousins about 2 years apart. They were twins and both got addicted to heroin. It almost killed their mother, my aunt, and she was never the same after that.
I've also had a couple friends die from alcohol abuse, one of them being so drunk he passed out in the back seat of a car and drowned on his own vomit. He was all of 26 at the time.
The other died in a car wreck, and the only saving grace was he didn't take anyone else out with him since it was just him and a tree.

You CAN do it. It is important that you take it one day at a time. Fight for sobriety one day at a time and get to a support group. One day at a time is crucial

One of the best ways to beat it, is sharing with other people. If you ever want to meet up I can share with you what was shared with me 7 years ago. It made life freaking FUN again! Reply to this post and I’ll give you my email if you need.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Prayers sent up OG. God can help you through this and get you past the hard times. It is hard to do on your own so seek counseling if you can.

I have seen it done a few times in my life. But never without giving it to God. Join a church that is spirit filled. You will find many that traveled the road that you are currently on. A support group helps. Good luck and God bless.

I have been given clonodine to regulate my blood pressure throughout this battle so I'm hopeful it will help a little at least.
They gave me that too when I detoxed because my blood pressure was skyrocketing. I was in a detox center and they called an ambulance for me and took me to the hospital. If you're dead set on doing this alone, try to get a couple of benzos, like Valium, xanax, or kolonopin. But only get a couple because you're going to want to abuse them too but that's what a detox center would give you. I remember it all too well. The shakes, the sweating, and I even had audible hallucinations (heard things that weren't really there. Again, feel free to email me at my user name@gmail.com. Detoxing from alcohol is terrifying, plus it can actually kill you or give you permanent damage.

Be careful. Weaning off whatever is probably the way you’ll need to go. Cold turkey may kill you.

I'm in. On my prayer list now. Never quit. Never surrender.
