The Bible is a great book, I’m catholic, but that won’t save a depressed mans life.

Being Catholic won’t. The Bible most certainly will

ETA: that’s what being depressed is; seeing yourself without God. The Bible shows you how to make God part of you internally.

What will it do? What if it is or is not taken literally?

See edit above.

You take certain parts literally and others parts you take as a message. Studying it is what helps you tell the difference.

For example: “Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth” is not to be taken literally. That was telling the Israelites the punishment should fit the crime.
“Love your neighbor” is just that. You should show love to everyone you meet. That’s to be taken literally.

It means different things to different people.
I’ve been to Hell. I don’t want to go back.
The Bible is one part of a great equation that works for me and now life is more fun than I could’ve imagined.

He wasn’t dissing it.
Just wanted some info.

“Doubt” is good. It leads you in search of the Truth.

That’s true. Maybe if the OP doesn’t have much success with the Bible he can try the Quran.

Best of luck man!! People are quick to label and criticize a person who is dealing with addiction. It is a disease and can get to the best of us. Do your best and try to surround yourself with people who understand and care about what you are going through.
