Currently reside in Pville and considering a move to Madisonville/Covington area. Work in BTR but have flexibility for home office. Schools not a concern. Looking for pro's & cons for the area compared to Pville.

Covington Madisonville has less trash, rednecks, and traffic

Madisonville is pretty bad. Crime, bad roads, no grocery stores.

I'd scratch it off the list, if you care about your family at all.

Prairieville is fine except in 10 years the streets will be horrible due to all of the new subdivisions as no one improves the roads or sewage when they build a new subdivision.

Plenty of rape, arson, extortion, money laundering, rape, meth, and homeless over in Mandeville as well.

Dude should steer clear of this place.

True, but getting too crowded. Folsom FTW.

Mandeville/Covington

Pros
better restaurants
closer to New Orleans for Saints games, festivals, concerts, and nights out
more things to do
better infrastructure (slightly)
Proximity to the lake

Cons
some schools are the same or better, but some are not very good at all. You have to pay close attention to what school district you're in.
Way farther from Baton Rouge for when you have to go into the office.
Way farther commute to LSU games.

We moved to Old Covington 2.5 years ago from the GBR area. The people are different. It's been an adjustment on that front, but we love it here and can never see us going back. The schools have been great for my kids. The traffic sucks for such a small area. But, unlike BR, it actually moves. Covington is more our speed. I find there are less uppity people over here. But, Madisonville is nice, too. I personally don't like Mandeville. But, you might. IMO, the nicest areas in the GBR area don't hold a candle to the Nshore.

Madisonville, LA is one of my favs.

I have lived all over the U.S. and one Europe job assignment. I am not moving again.

...Until I retire...where I will get a condo uptown Nola.

I have lived in Ascension Parish. Nice. Enjoyed it. But LOVE northshore more.

This should be seen as a huge plus.

Only 8 times a year at most. I drive 3 hours each way, so I don't see that BR-Northshore circuit as particularly daunting.

You should move there and then every time you meet someone, talk about the neighborhood you live in, forever, really emphasize it, even if they don't seem to give a shite.

That seems to be the trend with transplants here.

How often would you have to travel to BR?

Lived in Mandeville awhile, probably the nicest area in Louisiana to live, maybe River Ranch in Lafayette is nicer. Both have been getting run down by southshore trash moving across the lake. Homes are way overpriced and I-12 is a bitch if you've got to head to BR in the mornings.

My suggestion: Move to The Woodlands in Houston, much better than anywhere in Louisiana.
