I'm less pissed about the Postal Service doing this as I am when Sonic says my food is being delivered when in actuality they haven't even made it yet.

We’ve come to expect amazingly quick delivery service. In fact, the internet economy relies heavily on fast delivery. Nothing wrong with that per se, but is this an over-promise?
It wasn’t that long ago that standard delivery times for mail order catalogs was 4-6 weeks!

The USPS office that delivers to my house admitted to me that they scan the package "unable to deliver, problem with address" when they run out of time to deliver the package during the day.

This has happened to me several times in the last few months. The last time, the package was marked “delivered” and the amazon rep got someone from USPS on the phone with us...he didn’t even comment on what was wrong, just said “we’ll take care of it, it’ll be there tomorrow”...what kind of jackass shite is that? That let’s me know that this phenomen runs high up the chain.

Buy one on Amazon. Bring it to Walmart for a return. You may have to do some fancy talking but they should swap it for another one with no receipt. Send the new one back to Amazon for a refund. Boom, free hair dryer.

Nothing wrong with realistically saying you can't get it there in time though. My motto is under promise over deliver. Always try to beat expectations, not fail to meet them.

The "stuck in the processing facility over the weekend" line got me pissed one time when i ordered a new golf club. I paid for two day delivery, you can't deliver it in 5 days claiming it was stuck in the processing facility for saturday and sunday. Got my postal charges refunded but it was still annoying.

I wish I knew in high school that I could work for the state or federal government and be an unproductive, incompetent, worthless piece of mule dung and have a job for life. That's right up my alley but I wasn't aware of it.

This has been happening for years fwiw
Send anything next day air through usps. The delivery is guaranteed before noon the next day. They mark the item as delivered before noon but I've gotten items as late as 7 pm.
A new trick they've been playing with me is saying a notice was left that a delivery was attempted. There's no notice left and I will be home when they say a delivery attempt was made. Items usually shows up a day or two later. Also have received alerts that they couldn't get in to gated community to deliver package (no gate exists) or customer was not available to sign for package (no sig required).
Why can't they just be honest? Saying something is delivered when it is not is way more stressful than saying "we're running behind".

Wait, you swapped the original hair dryer at Walmart in exchange for a new one which you send back to Amazon. Unless I'm missing something, you have no hair dryer and the same amount of money you started with in this scheme of yours

I experienced this exact same damn thing a year ago...not only did they scan it as delivered but they had no intention of ever delivering it because the package was "too big and heavy for their girl to handle." This is what I was told when it was finally revealed the package was sitting at my local post office after days of phone calls.
Their SOP for packages not delivered is to take your name and number and force you to wait for a manager to call you. Once the manager calls you a day later they tell you it takes 72 hours to investigate...after 96 hours and no call you finally call to check on status, the person checks the notes and tells you your package is at your local post office(the place you originally call). When you go to pick it up the old lady behind the counter tells you they've been waiting on you to pick it up because she's been tripping over it all week...when you ask why it's been sitting up here all week she tells you the delivery girl couldn't pick it up or fit it in her truck.

Everyone is hating on USPS, and believe me, they deserve it, but if this shite is well known and Amazon continues to use them and charge their customers for it...
